Too bad he and Denard would never play together.
well that's just, like, your opinion, man
Too bad he and Denard would never play together.
More running plays for him if he plays here with Shane.
I'll bookmark this post in the event both are playing on the same nfl team.
The RUN DMC shirt, classic.
Yea, love it.
Hey now, there's a 50/50 chance they end up in the same Conference after they are drafted, and would then be Pro Bowl teammates.
Per Mike Farrell at Rivals, Derrick Green has always texted back "no" when asked if he was going to commit on any visit he's been on. Tonight? "idk". The anticipation builds for tomorrow
I need to go to the gym.
the fact these young men are only 16 or 17 blows my mind
Alright, I have got to man up and admit my ignorance: Who the HELL is that guy?
Thank you many times, sir or madam.
you mean tim and eric?
for Manning Up.
It's Chevy Chase before he got fat, Or if he was ever not fat. I don't know.
The internet has accelerated the learning curve in almost all sports. In football, coaches have access to a lot more info concerning conditioning, drills, and schemes. People know nutrition a lot better. Kids are being "recruited" at 14, and it motivates many to get serious about conditioning at that age.
High schools supposedly don't recruit, but a lot of blue-chippers somehow end up at schools with state of the art training facilities. Also, kids with the potential to be elite athletes are under a lot more pressure from their familes, especially if they are poor, to earn a scholarship and play professional sports.
It even goes down to little league, and coaches naturally take an interest in kids who show the potential to play in college. If a kid really wants it, he can start developing himself while he is still in elementary school.
Consequently, I'm not surprised that some of these kids already look like men.
There have always been guys who looked like men. Sometimes it's just genetics. I don't know what Green's story is, but Bo Jackson is a perfect example of someone who was completely ripped and rarely lifted weights. Herschel Walker mostly just did push-ups and sit-ups.
Booby Miles also comes to mind.
One GM at the time said Hershal Walker was the only kid he had seen that could have gone from high school to the NFL.
pics of her on his web site. But I thought that she spelled it with an -ie rather than -y at the end of her name.
Learn somethin' new every day, i guess.
Jake Long brand pads.
might need to dye the hair more maizey.
But what shade of maize??
I was thinking Green was a little over-rated until I saw the Run DMC shirt. We MUST get this guy.
I've been saying for a while that he's a better shot to commit than most have given credit for, it looks like a very real possibility now that he's actually visited and talked with coach Hoke. It looks like I might be getting the best kind of vindication: the kind that results in a Michigan commitment.
We may have gotten a bit lucky with the auburn situation, but IMO that may help him commit soon to avoid a repeat
"Dude is a beast." And you give other MGBloggers shit for not adding creative of unique comments that add value to the board?
I'm confortable staying in tonight to soak up the random Green commitment tidbits. I hope he commits early so my entire Sunday isn't wasted, too. Ha.
That conference room looks like it was put together in the 90s.
Pretty bad, hope that's part of the latest remodeling.
I should probably withhold judgment without seeing the rest of it, but that slide looked dated.
Then again, who cares when you've got a Heisman for the kid to tote?
It's the content that counts. The presentation probably showed him the following equation: ginormous Michigan offensive line commits + Derrick Green equals Heisman. That's why he's holding it.
I wonder if Hoke piped in some Spin Doctors just to set the mood of the room.
Looks like mister T back in the day..... If he's running the show, I'm getting out of the way!
Man, I like Deveon Smith's play so it would be great to see him and Green battling it out to tote the ball on Saturdays.
Or a one two punch you in the face combo Ingram/Richardson style wouldn't be bad either.
I like it
That'd be nice but Borges has said repeatedly he wants one guy. I'd only see another guy coming in as a situational change of pace back, like V-Smith.
I believe he has only stated that about this group of backs. If he had a couple of horses he could run he would. He didn't seem to have a problem with two backs when he had Ronnie Brown and Cadillac at auburn.
Question: If there is not a lot of separation, are you comfortable rotating a few guys or do you really want a go-to guy?
Al Borges: “I don’t like it, never have.”
Question: You don’t like rotating?
Al Borges: “I don’t like rotating, but that being said, if two guys are on an equal plane then we may do it. I’ll never say never, but it has never been my preference
Agreed. Deveon is going to surprise people at the next level. Underrated.
Really call him underrated. Scout has him as the #10 overall back in the country, and 247 has him at 17. He is a 4-star on ESPN and a high 3-star on Rivals. Rivals has him at #32 overall, his lowest ranking of the four sites. With those rankings I would consider him pretty highly touted at this point.
You're highly touted at this point.
Even on this blog numerous people complain that we can't land a top running back even with our offensive line recruiting going so well. I think Deveon will out perform most of those rankings.
I did. It was awesome.
is simply amazing. wow
a fan of Northwestern in high school. Good thing he grew out of that "stage"
I wish I looked like that at any point in my life
I see that presentation and automatically think "prestige....worldwide!"
Down here right now and cut us a check for fucking 10k
Boats and ho's, boats and ho's.
It's the f****** Catalina Wine Mixer!
The first name in security....and black leather gloves!
I feel bad for any player that has to tackle this kid. Complete monster.
I thought Wesley Snipes was in jail
This is what Green will look like this coming year compared to the other high school kids.......YIKES!
I don't care what it brings to the board, but I would shit my pants so many times if we get him... Mack Truck
I think I have problems. My fandom has gotten so bad I have now developed recruiting superstitions. I will not allow myself to watch a recruits highlight video (Including Green’s) until I see a hello post and they have officially committed. As if watching Ty Isaac’s highlight video somehow jinxed his recruitment…… but better safe than sorry I always say.
Somebody should send the picture to Dave Brandon so he can have budget to fix that meeting room.
If this is the kind of muscle and body frame he has coming into his senior year of HS, could yo imagine what it'll be like in his junior to senior year of college.
He's a monster.
Replace each (he) with a (she). Now you're my creepy uncle. Thanks for that.
I was so bummed earlier this year when we lost out on the number 1 RB in the country (Ty Isaac on Scout), turns out we might still get the number 1 RB (Green on Rivals). I think this should just serve to indicate how well this year is going for us.
Don't mean to bubble burst, but didn't he almost commit on his Auburn visit?
You're thinking of Jordan wilkins
No, he's thinking of Derrick Green.
Wilkins was the one that almost comitted. Green is the one that left with a 'special feeling.'
It's not about the room. It's about the people running the room. When you're listening to Hoke and Mattison, you don't give a damn how old the place looks. Tell DB to save that money for our awesome mascot costume.
This is great news, but who is coach hooke?
...but more literal
IM A MOOOOONSTER
Coach Hooke is the head coach of the Kansas City Chefs
If Hoke finishes the class with Green and Treadwell, beats Alabama, wins the Big Ten and another BCS game, is he better than Bo? Better than Bo + Crisler + Yost? Should Ann Arbor be renamed Hokesville, Hokesburg, St. Hoke or San Hokecisco?
big fella..... I love your enthusiasm but it is only July
The city and the university are always fighting over money for traffic control and police services during game days, there are some hard feelings on both sides. I doubt a2 names anything after Hoke. Indeed Yost street is a short street in a Blue collar neighborhood near Packard and carpenter, I doubt they rename a major street after a two year coach. Perhaps a statue, those seem to work out well.
Did we NOT learn any lessons the past 9 months about idolizing existing coaches? Who ONLY coach a sport?
i love the run dmc shirt. old school.
Almost time to party!!!
I can't stop watching...(& good Lord that looks like a terrible contraption for the playground)
I just threw up watching that.
In Soviet Russia swing swings you.
No politics on mgoboard.
Green/Smith/Rawls at HB, Shallman at FB, the ridiculous OL we're bringing in, AJ at TE. I'd like to see anybody try to stop us in short yardage! Also can't forget Khalid at TE/H-Back.
Don't forget about our fullbackian fullback who fullbacks.
Just this week his praises were being sung by the keynote speaker of the B1G.
I see him being some part of the equation.
That's right dude, the beauty of this is its simplicity. Once the plan gets too complex everything can go wrong. There's one thing I learned in Nam...
That kid is anything but small.
a Shane Morris play action fake to Green, hitting treadwell on a go route.....
Really hoping kid is a Lupe Fiasco\2 Chainz fan...uh...paging aquaman?
A big RB (6", 215 now with some growing left to do, I imagine) with reported 4.3 speed like Green would definitely be a great addition. Looking at the photo, I would say that short yardage plays would not be a problem certainly.
In case anyone is interested, because I am working on this diary and have the data anyway, even if Green joins the class, the average RB in the 2013 class is 6'1", 220 lbs, an increase of about 3 inches and 20 pounds over the incoming freshmen.
His chest is broader than my wingspan.
Hopefully he's hungry for BBQ and Maize and Blue
When is the BBQ?
this guy is built like a fire hydrant, must get
I think he's built like this fire hydrant.
I love those around the stadium. If I were a recruit, I'd committ just because of them.
DO I NEED BUCKLE UP?!?
twitter drama right now between green and some osu fan/blog
anyone else get the feeling that green is mad at OSU and is considering michigan more than before to get back at them and/or commit and stomp them in the future?
derrick green: https://twitter.com/BrOoKyLn_boii27
blockonation then said:
@osusilverbullet I NEVER wanted him....Has nothing to do w/ him going elsewhere....
then derrick green starts responding to him.. if you go to both pages you can see it all
Classic Buckeyes. No Class at all.
Why to people do this to teenage kids. Just let them be.
And then he complains that his comments have been blown out of proportion, mostly by Michigan fans, but *gasp* even some Ohio fans! If your own side is telling you that you've crossed a line, you've probably crossed a line.
I'm sorry but is that someone affiliated with Ohio State calling Michigan "Ann Arbor Community College"? Plus the added irony of someone from Ohio making jokes about other players possibly getting impermissible benefits
Oh geez. I thought it was Country Club. Lol
Apparently Lupe Fiasco/ 2 Chainz not any more popular in Columbus
lol at the NEVER wanting him, who wants a five star RB these days anyways...Ohio fans never cease to amaze me.
B4 the barbecue... Cannot be a bad sign
Looks like he's been through a college S&C program already!
I had a Run DMC t-shirt very similar to that in the late 80s. Good to see the young fella has good taste in music.
Assuming both Fitz and Rawls are back in 2013, which I have no reason to doubt, it would be a waste to play him has a freshman. Michigan does need a Vincent Smith type (good at blitz pickups and short yardage receptions), but Green is unlikely to be it.
Even before any off-field issues with Fitz, I would say there's always been at best a 50/50 shot of him coming back in 2013.
Our depth chart at RB is going to be stacked for a while. That would be quite the competition to watch in the near future.
Hazzard of being buckled up for too long on a hot day...
Dymonte Thomas says on Twitter
He's about to commit :)
Buckle up, everybody.
He is about to commit! :)
Don't you dare, don't you dare toy with my emotions today.
Have been buckled up since friday.
My god, OSU fans should be embarrassed by Urban's childish ploy this week. Green is scheduled to visited Michigan, then Columbus this weekend. But two days beforehand, after full-court pressing Green since day one, Urban suddenly leaks that the Buckeyes "are going in a different direction." Is his head so far up his ass that he thinks the world won't put two and two together? Obviously he was just worried about losing another head-to-head recruiting battle with Michigan. What a pathetic coward.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
I think you are pushing it to say Meyer is perpetrating some “ploy”. I doubt he really cares whether “he lost some head to head recruiting battle to MI” other than losing the actual recruit.
I know several D1 coaches and they really don’t care about that. That is FAN speak.
He most likely ascertained that Green wasn’t going to commit his way and figured it was time to cut his losses and utilize his resources toward someone else.
Trust me, I am no Meyer fan, but coaches just don’t think like that.
(And do I want Green,... "HAIL YES!")
