Slippery Rock is finally coming to Michigan Stadium to play Mercyhurst this October. Per Michigan Football Twitter. Anyone going?

The entire United States? Landed on the moon?  Wow!

How’d they launch it? How’d it fit? Are the lanes to the George Washington Bridge still open? Can Sarah Palin still see Russia from her house? Am I lucky to be out of the country now, working on finding Malaysian Airlines Flight 370?  How will Warren Buffett ever know that he owes me a billion dollars?

Do I get any bonus points for having been at the Slippery Rock game in the 1970s at Michigan Stadium? I think it was the largest attendance for a Division II game at the time.

Unless I have missed something, per everything I can find including Slippery Rock's own site, this still stands as the largest crowd ever to watch a Division II football game. It was played September 29th, 1979 against Shippensburg, who won 45-14. I think we had a small ceremony before the Wisconsin game in 2010 to honor that game.

It was Slippery Rock against Shippensburg, but if I recall it was also a band day at the stadium - pretty smart of Don Canham to hedge his bets. I didn't attend, but from the house where I lived on South Forest, I remember being impressed by the crowd noise.
