Slightly OT: Brendan Morrison trying out for Vancouver Canucks

Submitted by bluedog10 on

I'm not sure if this has been posted about before, but as you can read about below, The Wolverine Hobey Baker winner is coming near to the end of his NHL career and he is currently on a tryout with the Vancouver Canucks.

Since he has been such a great representative of the University and UM hockey, here is to wishing the best of luck to Brendan in this tryout.  I hope the Canucks will give him another crack at playing some hockey so he can retire on his own terms!

I wonder what ever happened to Morrison.  He was part of that awesome line with Naslund and Bertuzzi but then he flamed out without warning and he hasn't produced anything since.

He had 42pts. and was a +23 for the Washington Capitals last season, all while playing an average of less than 16:00 a game.  That's a decent stat line, and I feel like given his character and veteran leadership there has to be a team that is willing to sign him for at least league minimum.  If for nothing else than to see what he really does have left in the tank.

Just because he's trying out for one particular team, doesn't mean others haven't offered him a contract.  After playing the majority of his career in vancouver, he's bumped around the past couple of years.  Probably not something he wants to keep doing seeing as how he has a wife and four kids.  I imagine he still has a residence in the Vancouver area, or at the very least wants to return to his friends/family and familiar places.

edit:  Just read the article and I stand corrected, apparently he hasn't had any other offers.

Hopefully Brendan catches on somewhere other than Vancouver.  Not that I don't wish him success wherever he goes, it's more that Canuck fans don't deserve him.

Brendan Morris is a class act and I wish him well on the Canucks.  I still smile thinking about the OT goal against Colorado College in 96 that made us national champions.  "OUR DAY WILL COME"

Good Luck Brendan, as someone already pointed out he actually had a pretty solid season last year. He can still be a really effective 3rd or 4th line player if that's what the Nucks are looking for.
