Skip Bayless and Steven A. make Michigan bet on the air

Submitted by Blueblood2991 on

Personally I can't stand either of these two, but they did a 9 minute segment on Michigan this morning on first take.

Steven A. Smith's comments: Michigan will be at least .500, but will be lucky to make a bowl game.  He also said they will lose to OSU and MSU.

Skip, on the other hand, guaranteed that Michigan will beat either MSU or OSU and made a bet with Smith.

Nothing groundbreaking here, just some offseason fluff.

Skip is an interesting guy. I will say though that I have predicted M to beat 1 of the 2 big rivals since Harbaugh was hired. That was before he even had one recruit commit to him. Yes I will pat myself on the back if it happens.

I saw Stephan A Smith in NYC one evening a couple weeks ago. He looked kinda drunk, angry and in a hurry as he came out of a building in Union square around 8pm.  As he crossed my path I recognized him and yelled a friendly "Stephan A!" and nodded to him. Dude just kept going and looked at me with a disdainful, menacing glare and stomped off.  He's seems like an angry, narscisstic guy.

Random question but has anyone ever read Skips book on the early 90s Cowboys. I heard it's a decent read and it doesn't feel like the TV persona of skip writing it. This is just what I've been told by a few people though

Considering that we are now - what is it - north of 40 bowl games now, you would think that being a .500 team at minimum would not impede your chances of making a bowl at all. I mean, we're at a point where being 4-8 would probably make you the football equivalent of a "bubble team" when it came to bowl selection if not for some of the restrictions on team records and bowls.

polarizing drivel. I think most of us would agree we expect to be well above .500. Maybe 7-5 or 8-4, which is clearly bowl eligible. I don't think many fans expect us to best MSU or OSU, though it might happen.

Lucky to make a bowl game? Shit, we almost made one last year, and that was with arguably one of the worst head coaches in the entire FBS.

Now that we have who I believe to be a top-10, arguably a top-5 coach, I think we will do much better than "be lucky to make a bowl game" this season.

Probably not playoffs or double digit wins good, but the Harbaugh effect will be felt by season's end.

Segments like these are what confirm to me that:

A) SAS is an idiot (Bayless too but that's a seperate point)

B) These two guys are professional trolls who are paid to have outlandish opinions that makes no sense.

Stephen A. Smith spends his first minute plus of his time speaking talking about how Michigan's going too have a legit defense, and how great a coach Harbaugh is, how we bring back a lot from last year and how effective Ruddock will be. Then he goes on to crticize our offense from last year listing how bad we were.

Yes, we were bad offensively last year. But that was with Hoke has a headcoach, not Harbaugh, and with a blackhole at QB, not Ruddock. And despite that, we still were a couple plays away from making a bowl or even being 7-5.

Saying we're going to lose to OSU and MSU 100% fine. At this point, I'd be very wary of anyone 100% predicting we're going to beat one, let alone both of them. So chalk those two up as losses if you'd like. But I don't see where 4 other losses come from.

Utah and BYU are the next two toughest in my opinion. Both early in the season, both against solid teams. Normally I'd say we should beat Utah, but first game of the season on the road will be tough. I could definitely see us going 2-0, more realistically 1-1 in those two games though. That's 3 losses, but if you want to be pessimistic lets say 4.

Then there's the rest of the B1G schedule. Indiana and NW we beat last year and I see no reason why we'd lose this year.

Maryland we lost to last year but they lose their starting QB (who was also their leading rusher), their top two recievers, and some experience from an awful defense. We should be able to beat them this year.

We lost to Rutgers last year. This year at home we will beat them. I don't think that needs much explaining.

So they only way we go 6-6 and struggle to make a bowl is if we lose to both MSU and OSU, Utah and BYU, and then Minnesota and PSU. PSU, a team we beat last year and has more question marks than us this year, and Minnesota, who had an awful offense and lost their only two offensive weapons in Cobb and Williams.

Even if you give us 2 losses with MSU and OSU, I don't see how you can expect us to go 0-4 against Utah, BYU, Minnesota and PSU. Even last years team could go 1-3, and with the improvements we should make this year, 2-2 should be the minimum mark.

I'm going laminate this and keep it in my wallet for easy reference whenever I need to rebut the negative Nellie argument. Anybody predicting less than 8 wins this year and claims to be a fan is just being a contrarian blow hard.

6-6 is the absolute worst case scenario.  If this happens, it means every fumble went the other teams way and we were beseiged with injuries.  That's the only way I see us finishing 6-6.  8-4 is a much more reasonable guess since road games at Minnesota, Utah, and Penn State could all be tough, but we'll pull one of them out.

I hate both of these guys (shocker), but Bayless did drop a fantastic quote:

"...Because he's Jim Harbaugh and you're not."

About sums it up.

With University of Michigan alum Dana Jacobson

And "the fact of the matter is," Stephen A. Smith is the master of rambling gibberish and the guru of goobledygook. When I hear his voice, I change the channel. I'd prefer to listen to Mike Greenberg gargling with tomato juice while singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," while Mike Golic munches on donuts and reads from the Oxford English Dictionary.

and Skip Bayless talking national championship for Michigan. Yeah, maybe not this year. But beating MSU and/or Ohio State, why is that so far out of the question any time, at home no less? Gimme a break. This team had no shot beating these schools in recent years and performed admirably at times. But now, I wouldn't bet against them winning one of the two.

MUCH more Molly Gerim and much less SAS and Bayless.  Don't care she said 'Big Blue'...frankly, I'd like her to whisper that in my ear all night.

Actually, re: the UM wagering; my lady was just out in Vegas last weekend for a girlfriend's B-day weekend.  I had her place 20 bills on the lads, so consider me one of the offenders driving the betting hype.

It's hard to believe that Harbaugh won't beat one of the rivals, despite the fact that UM will be the heavy underdog in both games.  I see the basement is 7 wins and the cieling probably 10.  My hunch is they go 50% against Utah, BYU, PSU, MSU, OSU, and MD, and win the rest and finish at 9-3.

Skip Bayless literally said "they have 10 starters back on offense, and 10 starters back on defense."

This is false. Nice try though

This show is basically Stephen A Smith telling Skip Bayless why he is wrong. Bayless giving Michigan his backing is a terrible, terrible sign for me. He is an absolute idiot
