SI's "Just Askin" interview with Rich Rod
wow what a douche of a reporter
Am I the only one that has an add of T. Pryor, in OSU uniform, at the top of the link --- looking over RR's shoulder as he gives his interview?
wow that was a horrible interview... should be titled "how to piss off a coach and not get welcomed back for an interview ever"
Seriously what is wrong with her? Why did she waste his time by asking if he has any predictions of the OSU-Michigan game this year.
It's been literally 2 years and like 10+ months since he left West Virginia....how many times has he been asked that question? The only people that still care are the 500 people in west virginia.
The NCAA Violations piece was a dandy... it's like what more can he say on the topic? And she pretty much tried to dong punch him by asking him what he thought when he found out several players had gone to the FREEP. She's misrepresenting what happened. Clownery.
That Maggie must know some people at SI.
If I have to see that beautiful Z turn into a Maxima one more time I may have to end it all...
I'd say without looking back at the questions, 4/10 were actually interesting questions. RR didn't really give any in depth details, so that was a little disappointing, but when you ask a guy some clownish questions, you can't really expect him to open up on the legit ones.
After watching that, why do I now feel like procreating and buying a Nissan Maxima?
They pronounced my name wrong.
Also, who the heck is maggie and how did she get that many questions answered?
Her name is Maggie Gray.
I just realized that they say in the interview that those questions were left anonymously... Probably should have listened to them first.
Were they all from "anonymous"? I know the first "Maggie" one was, but that one referencing a prior interview with Brian Kelly seemed to be the reporter's question.
I was hoping it was Magnus until I saw how vacuous the questions were. Then, I realzed it was probably a real Maggie.
Rodriguez comes accross pretty well, despite the "when did you stop beating your wife" type questioning. He came accross as genial, relaxed, and didn't allow himself to be put on the defensive.
Until the wins are rolling in you know that the bulk of the questions would have a negative slant. By my count at least 7 put Rod in a defensive mode. Getting out there and having Michigan in the national media is not necessary right now. This isn't WVU, where nobody cares about your program outside the state. Rod should just focus on wins, and limit media to the normal course stuff.
I thought he acquitted himself just fine, so I don't see why it would be a mistake to sit for this type of interview. Ducking from the media is worse than having to fend off their salvos.
Take Greg Robinson, for instance. I don't understand why he keeps refusing to speak to reporters after the games. That isn't doing him any good, and it's not helping Rodriguez either.
I agree but Gerg works for RichRod and my guess is that Rich has told him to not speak to the media. Generally speaking subordinates (especially seemingly sucky subordinates on thin ice at work) do exactly what the boss wants.
I wonder if Dave Brandon has worked with Coach Rod (or had someone work with him) on some media training. I think he felt more at ease, more direct, and more focused on this. Then again, when you've answered a question 10 times, it gets a little easier to answer it each time.
That said, I do wonder if they asked like 20 questions and picked 11, or that Coach Rod got to vett some of the questions. I think that as much as we would like to know the ideas on what he's going to do to adjust for the contain on Denard, it would be tipping his hand a little bit.
Also, anyone else enjoy that Coach Rod is wearing a Michigan Stadium Rededication Game pin?
The questions weren't all terrible even if mostly generic. The follow up questions the interviewer would ask were all really dumb and useless.
I saw the way coach looked at her in the end. "You know I'm a good recruiter"
Any one else notice the prominent display of the #1 shirt behind RR?
