Singletary Out as 49ers Head Coach
Mike Singletary fired tonight on the plane ride home from the 49ers loss to the Rams on Sunday. Jim Harbaugh's name has already been mentioned by Chris Mortensen....this outta be interesting to see how this plays out if RR is let go by this time next week- could we see a bidding war between Michigan and the 49ers or another NFL team? This ought to be interesting to watch.

So, if things haven't played out by now, there is no way anything significant is going to happen until Jan 4th, as many have pointed out.
In fact, for all you CC advocates, the only thing that COULD (not necessarily likely) happen between the end of Michigan's bowl game and the end of Stanford's bowl game is DB announcing RR the coach for the 2011.

List of things twice as good as Mike Singletary just got longer:
Jim Harbaugh
Mike Doubletary

I didn't even know the Dons had a football team. I'm surprised they're not talking to Bill Russell about the job, though. He's an alum and is a proven winner.

... Love for him to be brought in and run the D, but that's never going to happen. Still that would be really cool have a mike singletary defense.

Great point, Jersey. There's absolutely no good reason to fire a coach after the 15th game. Unless you're worried that you might lose your top replacement-candidate by next week.
But don't they still need to first hire a new GM? That could slow things down quite a bit.

What they said on Sports Center was that San Fran had wanted to fire him for a while but were waiting until they were officially eliminated from a playoff spot (which happened yesterday amazingly enough). That way no one could say that they missed the playoffs because they fired the coach in the middle of the season. FWIW.

I'd love to see Harbaugh coaching the 49ers. A Michigan Man in charge of the best-known Buckeye QB in the NFL? Oh, the delicious irony.

Explain the Hoke Hate? Seriously, you RR guys accuse everyone who doesn't wash RR's balls every morning of being haters, yet you guys flood these boards with hate for anyone, EVERYONE who doesn't worship RR (all his 15-21 greatness notwithstanding).
And let me be the first to coin a new nickname for Hoke if he is hired for all YOU H8TERS:
Brady Hoax.

This analysis of why Singletary failed includes a hilarious anecdote about Harbaugh falling asleep "after working for several days without sleep" and having his head fall forward and hit the computer keyboard, resulting in 8000 pages worth of the same letter of the alphabet.
What letter might that be? "M" of course. ;-)

This was my best Christmas present this year sadly. Singletary is a great guy, just a complete fool as a head coach. I have been a 49ers fan for 25 years now. I was happy to see him go. I am hoping for Eddie D to help his nephew Jed select a winner at GM and HC.
