Would anybody recommend going to see this game vs northwestern at night?
I am defenatly going to this game, its going to be the poor mans night michigan game.
was taking my girl for my normal fall chicago trip and this lines up nicely, previous years I had to miss a michigan game since I didn't want to waste an afternoon in a sports bar. (both times were during disapointing iowa games anyway though)
tickets for nothwestern don't go onsale to public till next month though
I thought I saw that NWU single game tickets will be available next week. They usually are available mid-July.
I emailed NWU tickets and they said Aug 22 for public bigten tickets.
that is what they told me over the phone.
Never been to a game at NU but I might be back in town with the girlfriend, so if I can get tickets for a halfway decent price I'll be there.
Living in Chicago, going to the Northwestern game is a ton of fun. Being a NIGHT game, I'm already pumped up for it. We take the Metra usually, drink on the train, and take the short walk to the stadium. Getting back usually isn't a big deal. Walk for a little bit then take a cab, it's cheap if you have 3 or 4 or 5 people. I've been to U of I once and it was just ok, but never for a game. I'd like to go once but NU is much closer and it ends up being a big Michigan reunion for tailgating anyway.
is there is a reason you can't take the train back? also any suggestions for pregame meal? ethier in evanston or along the way from DT on the train from where I'll be staying?
Calypso Cafe has a location in Evanston. I haven't been to that particular one, but the one in Hyde Park was good (I was down there and searched for a fluff article about Obama's favorites and that's the one he named).
It's Cajun and not very expensive. Get an order of Johnny Cakes if you go, they're basically sweet pancakes served with butter and cost a whopping one dollar.
Like every 1-2 hours. (much less frequent than the El) So while you can easily plan your trip there based on the schedules, getting home may be rougher wehen you don't know exactly when the game gets out.
I've done chicago but normal stuck to the main city so never ventured much, but google using its public transit thingy says the purple line goes within .3 miles of ryan field? isn't that part of the El system?
it's the first town north of the city limits. The purple line is indeed on the EL system.
I'm getting impatient with NW's single game ticket sales.
me too, if it wasn't a night game i wouldn't be worried, would just grab some cheap ticks of craigslist, but have a feeling this has a chance to sell out and become a hot ticket.
and good info for anyone in a spot like me making there first trip there:

good info
The CTA purple line back towards the city from evanston runs every 15 minutes on saturday nights. This is what I plan on doing.
I plan to attend the NU night game as well. I've been to Champagne and the Illini fans are the worst. Plus, their stadium looks like it was designed by Lenin himself. Evanston is much nicer, the atosphere is great and it's easy to get in/out of. Plus, there's usually about 50/50 mix of UM fans and NU fans. See you all there!
I defintely plan on trying to make it to the NW game as well. It will be my first UM game outside of the Big House so I'm definitely excited.
Does anyone know how much NW tickets usually go for?
they just closed the calypso cafe in hyde park, but the one in Evanston is still open
thats gonna be my pregame meal before the game in Evanston !
last year was august 9 for northwestern public sale
i know a couple alums, trying to get some sooner and cheaper thru this route
buses from Duffy's usually include everything except the ticket. ride each way plus large tailgate with food+beverage ...
