Yea you had them embed code and all, I was just putting the rest up for anyone else who might need a pointer. Someone showed me how to do it and I was thankful, so just trying to pass on the good will on opening day.

It's pretty funny that this has been posted three times in this fifteen comment thread though.

That video was all kinds of awesome.  Thanks for posting it repeatedly.

For so many years, we have all been oddly proud of only knowing and singing the word "Hail" and letting the band do the rest with Yellow and Blue.  I am coming around to thinking that we should learn all the words and sing the entire song.

Definitely not all, there are many of us who hang around after the games specifically to sing it. I never even realized that only singing "Hail" was a thing. Are there really other people out there who are proud of only knowing one word of the lyrics of our alma mater? I heartily suggest you learn the entirety (The Yellow and Blue lyrics from mgoblue.com) and sing it with gusto.

Thanks for your "suggestion."  Singing the entire song (or first verse) was actually my suggestion in  my post.  I know all the words of the first verse and have read (and enjoy) the other two verses (although I don't know them all by heart).  When I was a freshman or so (30+ years ago) I had a t-shirt that had the entire three verses printed upside down so the wearer could look down and read the lyrics.

See, that was the joke.  No one knew the words except Hail.   That had been the joke in the 60s when I first went to games as an 8-year old and learned that there was this song that know one knew the words to except Hail.  It was still the deal 10 years later when I was a freshman.  It is still the deal.  Have you ever been to Michigan Stadium?  Have you ever noticed the predominate silence while the band is playing the Yellow and the Blue except for the word "Hail"?  Do you think everyone is embarrassed by the fact that they just can't learn the words?  Of course, they could learn if they wanted to.  Regrettably, they don't care and they enjoy singing Hail at the right moment.

I like the song a lot.  I wish it was more of a tradition that everyone sang the entire first verse at least.  But it is not the tradition -- at least not in the last 40 years or so.  (You may have noticed that staying for the postgame band show is also not a tradition, except for band parents and a few others.  I myselft have been staying for the last few years and I really like it.  But the students NEVER stay.  I didn't back then either.)

I re-read your post and I wonder if you are a generation or so older than me.  Maybe singing the Yellow and the Blue in full was more common in the early 60s or before.  I'd be glad if it were true, and I wish it were still true.  But, unfortunately, it has not been true in my lifetime and I'll be 50 this fall.

I was a T1 on stage for that performance.  When everyone stood up in the audience and was singing verse 1 again, it got dusty then too.

That whole weekend was one of the highlights of my University of Michigan experience, from seeing old friends to meeting Coach Carr, who spoke at the previous night's ceremony, to singing with the old alums, to Bob from Sesame Street cracking open a can of Guinness on the Hill Auditorium stage.

I am proud to have graduated from an institution that, for all its ups and downs, can provide memories like these, and hope that the seniors entering their last year, the freshmen making their first trip to the Big House, and generations of Wolverines will have their own treasured experiences, starting today.

In T,C, & ME,

I was a T1 94-96.  Then I quit to start an a capella group with my friends (Good News) which is still around, I'm told.  UMMGC was a fantastic experience for me.

If you're a fan of the Men's Glee Club and of Michigan songs in general, just inside gate 2 of the stadium around 7pm wouldn't be a bad place to be.  ;)

That was a phenomenal weekend to be sure from the first Laudes in the League to the final Colors at Hill. That recording captures what it is to be a Michigan Man.  I was a B2 in the early Blackstone era & felt so honored to take the stage to represent Michigan once again.  Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
