Signing Day OPEN Thread (part 2)

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

This isn't saying people can't make their own threads about big topics...

PLEASE make a new one (part 2) if this one gets to 3 pages or so...

This is simply to talk about Signing Day news (Michigan OR non-Michigan related) in a "chat form"

...some folks are at work and won't be able to keep up, so whenever there is a big committment or simple stuff you want to chat about, feel free to post!

Kevin Hart signed with a D-II school today. You may remember him as the kid who held the press conference at his school and committed to Cal, even thought he wasn't being recruited by them.

While I know it's sort of a sad story regarding a kid getting too wrapped up in a lie to turn back, I prefer to think of it as the highest of comedy.

Kevin Hart: "I'm going to Cal."

Jeff Tedford: "Uh, no you're not."

Hart: "Sure I am."

Tedford: "No. You're not."

Hart: "But I had a press conference and everything. See ya in August."

I like his style.  NSD can get chaotic with all those faxes and players names and comitts and decomitts flying around.  It could have worked.

If the Zooker was still employed it would have worked there.  That may have been why he was fired - half his classes were probably kids he never actually recruited.

He went to camps at Oregon and Washington and at certian points he was being recruited by the schools. They told him if he got his grades up he could get an offer but he didn't try hard enough. He had letters from the schools, gear from the camps, enough that it was believable.

Erik was on the local sports radio about 20 minutes ago.  Said he sent his LOI in from his dining room with only his parents there....simple, no circus atmosphere.

He also said USC and a couple other so Cal schools came on hard late but he was only considering Michigan.  Oklahoma or Notre Dame would have been his next choice, and he definitely had SDSU on his radar until Hoke left.

Hoke was the main deciding factor in choosing UM, and he's excited about going against the great D-line talent in the Big Ten.  He was asked if he would have considered Michigan if RichRod was still there: "probably not, no."

Another thing he mentioned that he was coming here to compete but that he wasn't expecting much his first year.

7 are EEs and the ACC has no backdate cap.  Also they only have like 59 kids on scholarship (including this year's senior class).

Plus Miami throws all kinds offers and a good chunk of these kids will end up academically ineligible when the dust settles, that happened last year, which is why they had room for 7 EEs.

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere after a quick MGoSearch but Pipkins was awarded a 4th star from ESPN as the 16th DT in the country.  So he's either quite good or really damn good to all of the major services.  Hooray for that.
