For those of you who haven't heard, State had a player actually serve time for assault and battery and reinstated him the very day he got out.

... this is merely an attempt for them to say, "Look, we're critical of MSU, too." Where were they when he was reinstated? Too busy trashing RichRod for kicking a player OFF his team for doing something illegal.

... but if I were I would wager this sudden half-hearted attempt at shaming MSU has at least something to do with the media backlash against the Freep.
It's almost as though someone said, "Sharp, we need something to make it look like we're at least kind of impartial here. Write a story about that thing that happened a month ago to MSU. Something about a kid in jail or something."

This isn't that shocking. Sharp will criticize MSU from time to time, sometimes harshly. The main difference is that he will occasionally praise them, whereas he never seems to have anything good to say about us.

The whole "Sparty Press" and "MSU propaganda" memes I see repeated around here are ridiculous.
There is no media conspiracy.

There may not be a conspiracy, but only because that requires planning and secrecy.
I would go with bias (maybe hatred?), and I don't care how much of an MSU homer you are, you simply cannot deny the bias that the Freep and its reporters have.
In fact, I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU to say that there isn't a bias.

MSU had a better season than UM last year. There are going to be positive MSU articles from that. That is not a sign of bias.

However, the disparity of how events at each school are covered is a sign of bias.
How the Feagin and Winston situations were dealt with is a perfect example. One writer even said something to the effect of "Winston looks out of shape, he must have been taking it easy this summer," when referring to his play at his first practice. No mention of his imprisonment.
Meanwhile, RichRod does as much due diligence as can be expected, not to mention that Feagin was a last minute addition to the class, then immediately kicks Feagin off the team when he finds out what happened. The papers are all spouting, "He lost the team, he's recruiting thugs, he'll win at any cost." Meanwhile nobody says anything about Winston ASSAULTING multiple innocent people, being in PRISON, then being in pads the day he gets out.
I know you're going to counter with the Freep article that was just written about it. Not only does it look like it was thrown together just bc everyone is complaining about the bias, but it takes multiple shots at M. Check the thread about it for all the reasons why it sucked.

As much as I hate to agree with you, this is correct. As was mentioned the last time this column was brought up, Sharp is pro-Sharp and anti-everything else.

I agree with Dr. Worm. Not sure why you guys think Sharp is somehow biased toward MSU. The guy hates everything. He probably hates himself (hell I would if I was him).

Ignoring points of view you disagree with, but quite honestly, I'm oh-100 on reading Drew Sharp and finding anything redeeming or intelligent. I'll pass (on the Freep as well)

.....that I made that statement because I agree with FOX you're mistaken. What Drew is trying to do is balance the good with the bad reporting, but it will not work. They (the FP) don't generally have a fair and balanced reporting when it comes to the University of Michigan.

Well, that article is wrong. I saw that companion piece to the RR article. It said "MSU compliant with NCAA rules."
