Add (college softball Heisman) to the title so this gets the proper attention it deserves!

FINALLY she gets what is rightfully hers.

Should've won it the last two years. The only player in the history of the sport to record 300 RBI, 300 runs and 300 hits.

I am confused as to why I got downvoted for this gif or why a picture of Romero hitting the ball was posted in reply.  I had intended for this gif to be a celebration of Romero's success.  I am sure she is a positive role model for girls everywhere.

Very, very deserving. I've watched more softball in the past 4 years than I had in the rest of my life combined. She's truly one of the all-time great Wolverines.

Yeah, I was very nervous as well - esp. after a certain other award earlier this year & after the ESPNW award (kinda the softball Walter Camp Award) went to the Auburn player.  Lots of great players, but none on Romero's level, especially if you take into account total career (which is of course debatable if they should).  Romero has never finished outside of the top 10 for this award, and finished in the top 3 as a sophomore & junior.  Finally it's her time.  More than deserved.

ESPNW just created their award last year, Romero was the innaugural winner.  ESPN certainly did enjoy talking about the fact that Romero was going up against Haeger (who won the top award) during the championship series.  I don't think anyone is saying that they are trying to fix the WCWS, just that maybe they like having the ability to talk about themselves on air.

Congrats, Romo! Very well deserved.

Really hard to win this award if you're not a pitcher. And last year we saw Lauren Chamberlain close out her career without winning, so it's not just handed out based on cumulative achievements.

the second annual MGoBoard Chick Who Knocks the Fuck Out of the Ball Award, or CWKTFOOTBA, a very prestigious and time honored award in its own right.

Congrats Ms Romero!

Romero, a top-three finalist for the award in each of the last two seasons, is the first Wolverine player in program history to earn the top collegiate honor. Romero, the 2016 Big Ten Player of the Year and a unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection, ranks among the nation's leaders in several major statistical categories, including batting average (eighth, .465), on-base percentage (sixth, .585) and slugging percentage (fourth, .916). She leads the nation with 1.38 RBI per game and lists third with 1.32 runs scored per game. Poised to become the first four-time NFCA All-American in U-M history, Romero also ranks high on several NCAA all-time lists and is already the NCAA record holder in career runs (300) and grand slams (11). With her 300th run last weekend, she became the first player to ever record 300 runs, 300 hits and 300 RBI. She ranks fourth all-time in career RBI (304) and slugging percentage (.889) and eighth in home runs (82) and walks (222). She has contributed to a Wolverine senior class that has posted a sterling 209-41 record, won four Big Ten titles and made three WCWS appearances over the last four seasons.

Most underrated athlete to play for michigan IMO. Congrats to her and well deserved. As mentioned above she should have been a 2 time winner if not 3.

I don't watch softball regularly but saw her offensive stats this year compared to the other non-pitcher finalist and it wasn't even close.  Unless the other finalist played the double-your-stats-card of passing up the pros to g̶e̶t̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶a̶ ̶f̶r̶e̶e̶ ̶a̶g̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶ further her eductation, this should have been unanimous.

Get that National Championship and she will walk out of Michigan holding every accomplishment a softball player could dream of. (Olympic Gold will come soon enough)
