SIAP: Partridge Gets a New Contract

Submitted by FauxMo on

Partridge gets a pay bump from only $80K per year (which shocked me) to $350K per year for two years, according to the story (free Rivals link):

For those scoring at home, that is a 338% increase in pay in one year, which I am fairly sure is above both the standard COLA and inflation. In terms of pure revenue to the school, Rashan Gary alone may end up being worth infinitely more than that, which makes the raise justifiable. And on the plus side for Partridge, he can now afford that pear tree he has always wanted...

Yeah, well if you want to post stuff here you need to 1) get multiple sources to confirm the information in the linked article, 2) do an exhaustive MGoBlog site search using Google Custom Search bar on the right  (I know results are random and not sortable by date -- I don't care, these are the rules) to ensure that nobody has ever before mentioned the information you wish to post. Thanks for participating in our vibrant online community!

That is a huge bump for someone at an entry level position coach.

For example, Jay Harbaugh only makes $175K. Mike Zordich makes $287K.

Not saying he's not worth it.. Just observing that that is a huge bump.. For a rookie coach. Harbaugh must really see somethign in him.

I think it ses a great example for what's possible as Harbaugh hires these other recruiting/analyst people.

I think most of Hoke's lower level assts were in teh 200K range.

Partridge is being paid the same as John Baxter, his predesessor at Special Team Coordinator.

Previous to being head coach at Paramus Catholic, Partridge was a college assistant at The Citidel and Lafayette College.

Considering what Partridge has done over the past year, the $350K salary is consistent with his expected future contributions.

If every kid he recruited to Michigan matches their potential, and he makes our linebackers better, then this contract is probably half or less of what he is worth to the program.

Gotta go back to the pipeline and get Clark, Hansard, Bolds, and Singleton this fall keep earning your cheddar, CP!

is around 50k, so a single individual making 80k is doing well by most standards.

Unless you have a toddler, a teenager about to go to Michigan, and a wife that doesn't want to work.  In which case anything less than 100k will have you living paycheck to paycheck and giving serious consideration to becoming a meth dealer.

/no I'm not bitter, why do you ask?

That's true...ish. It's really not that much any more, and subtract taxes, retirement savings, mortgage, etc, you're looking at a comfortable existence if there's a second income in the household.

For an apparently up and coming coach in a revenue sport at a top-level school, $80k is WAY below market. He deserves his raise. Gotta keep the talent you have in any work environment. Good for him.

I need to push harder when it comes to that discussion at the end of the yearly evaluation cycle. Whereas mine usually run in the 3% range (I do get something that you could call a bonus in addition to that), something in the 300% range would definitely work out better for me, especially with a few home projects slated for this year and next. I wonder what would happen if I posed the question.

To all the people who claimed that bringing him on board was some kind of shady move, shame on you. Harbaugh found a gem and changed the guy's life inside a year and a half. His coaching career will never be the same and to say that it isn't because he seized a lucky opportunity and worked hard to make the most of it is shameful. It's great to see guys who perform get rewarded. Coaching is now a lucrative business and I'm sure he had many years where he was being grossly underpaid in relation to the impact he was having the lives of young football players. Now he's getting his just compensation.

Step it up man. RCMB had this posted 14 hours before you got around to it. In the time it took someone on mgoblog to post it, they've convinced themselves that Partridge was given this job and it's 700k two year salary for the sole purpose of Rashan choosing Michigan.
