SIAP: Hoke hopes boos were for him (Edit: Also, sort of addresses injuries?)

It kinda seems like Hoke's been getting in trouble for his media demeanor in the media.

Relevant:

After a series of miscues late in the second quarter, fans began to show vocal signs of disapproval, as boos rained down on the team as they headed into the locker room for halftime. Hoke just hoped for one thing out of it.

"Hopefully those boos were at the coaches and me," Hoke said. "Not the players."

Earlier this month, Hoke caught some flack for noting that true fans will support the players, and those that aren't true fans will not. Both statements echo in the same vein.

Not heartwarming, but better?

EDIT: There is also this:

Hoke also discussed Michigan's injury situation again, and the main focus is naturally on junior wide receiver Devin Funchess, whose status is up in the air.

"We'll make a game-time decision on those guys," he said, referring to not only Funchess, but junior safety Jarrod Wilson and senior cornerback Raymon Taylor as well.

I thought we didn't talk about injuries.... Admittedly, not a functionally different response from not talking about them all together, but a very different way of relating the same information.

I'm sorry, but if you don't know that the fans were booing the coaches, you're an idiot.  Hoke and any coach should worry about their job because if they do it well the fans will fall in line.  Hoke has been less than stellar at his job, and if he won't admit it then the last thing he should do is bring up fans.

I thought it was pretty clear the boos were for the coaches. Frustration from the 2nd quarter and the delay of game after a timeout built up, but it was truly the Decision to punt that started the booing. The fact that the punt landed 8 yards in the end zone just kind of validated the fans. They were not booing the punter or players.

You can say that..but I think you are kidding yourself if you dont think that Hagerup felt that some of the boos were directed towards him. You are delusional if you dont think the players on the team think a good portion of the boos are directed towards them. They dont have a way of surveying every person in the crowd and asking who the boo was directed to.

There was a ton of booing when Devin threw the pick in my secton, than again, directed at Devin by name, when we had the delay. Then boos when Hagerup kicked in in the endzone. Everyone claims they were booing the coaches afterwards because no one wants to be that guy, but trust me, live there was very little distinction made. People just get upset and need to let someone know about it in general.

I heard groans at the interception and the kickoff fumble but no boos in my section. I was there as well and the boos didn't start until the punt team trotted out after the delay of game in which everyone got riled up. I think part of it was being excited about going for it on fourth and one and then watching the team blow it.

Narratives work both ways and I think the " don't boo college kids crowd." are building their own narrative because they're frustrated that the majority opinion is against them in this case. I think there are always jerks, but the majority of fans were booing the coaches and it was pretty clear that was the case based on the timing.

I wouldn't worry coach! Pretty sure the boos were for you. Nobody doubts the skill level or the dedication of the players on this team. People just scratch their heads at how you utilize them sometimes.

I saw an ad today for a maize and blue T-shirt with "FIRE HOKE" on it. If you see anyone wearing one on Saturday, you have my permission to call them an asshole to their face.

In my opinion, the scrutiny that Hoke is under seems to take up more of his attention than focusing on winning. Sure he says that's what they are doing and he sAys he doesn't listen to criticism but all this hush hush nonsense about injuries, his general demeanor, and just a lot of the things he says are the mark of someone who is not focused on the game at all. I have worked for some very demanding bosses before and one thing the great ones all told me was never make the same mistake twice. Hoke makes the same mistakes over and over. I hope I'm wrong about this week but if I was betting I would pick utah to beat the spread in a heartbeat. Who hasn't Hoke been outcoached by? I mean I love Hoke and I defend him all the time to all my buddies but he's making it harder and harder to do every year.

no thanks. Sorry for having high standards for my alma mater. Michigan football under Dave Brandon's leadership is embarrasing. Brandon has taken the gold standard for college football to single A ball standard. I am sick and tired of this mickey mouse crap. Time to get a real football coach and not a MAC retread that has no clue how to build a program.

Where are these excuses? We lost last year because our OL played poorly. It's not an excuse, its just an understanding of reality. We lost to ND because we were bad on 3rd downs, offensively and defensively. It's not an excuse, its the way it went. There are no excuses. No one wants to lose. But some people are adults who realize that life isn't perfect. So we analyze what went wrong and look to see that that improves. If it does, then maybe the coaches are competent. A lot of people said this line would be worse because we lost two NFL tackles. I knew it would be better because I know how lineman progress. They are better. Funk is not incompetent. If Michigan is bad this year, you could argue that Hoke is incompetent; the team isn't improving, its making the same mistakes, etc. But 2011 was good and 2012 wasn't too bad. There's one bad data point, 2013, and the issues that sunk us have been -- if not fixed, improved.

of the same that were saying fire Hoke are the same ones saying fire RR, and the same ones that were saying fire Carr.  All three have one thing in common, they became an embarassment with the way their teams didn't win.  Carr was in hot water before "The Horror", that game just sealed his fate.  Rodriguez' fate was all but sealed by his last loss to OSU, and should Hoke continue down the path of losing to rivals and on the road in general, he'll be gone too.

Where the fuck does this come from? Carr had already given notice that he was retiring. The only reason he was coaching that game was because the AD and President talked him into coming back for another year. That's a coach in hot water???

I've heard this from OSU fans, but I forgive their ignorance. I thought people here knew better; the story was on the front page of the blog after all.

I don't get it. It's as if some fans so desperately need to think that their opinion is of critical importance to the program that they'll completely rewrite history to convince themselves of the fact.
