Some good stuff here on guys just drafted and current players. Mattison has a lot of confidence in our D Line this year... One of my favorite quotes: "I think you’re gonna’ see some unbelievable things out of Rashan Gary in the near future."

I always remember when Greg Mattison got here and took our defense from something like 110 to 14th (going from memory).

He was nominated for the Broyles Award in 2011 (best college football assistant coach) and I still think he deserved to win for that tremendous turnaround.

Greg Mattison is an NFL level DC, who is working the final years of his career as the DL coach at Michigan. That just does not happen. I appreciate the hell out of him, and will be sad when he's gone. Mattison's willingness to stay on was one of the most selfless career moves I've seen anyone make. And of course, he is an emergency DC: his work against Florida was masterful.

Wish we could get more content like that. First time I've heard reference to Anchor being six-tech and really enjoyed Mattison talking up those guys' character - something we take for granted the past few years, especially when you see the other end of the spectrum down the road.

This is another great quote:  " I’m gonna tell you this about Rashan Gary, and I hope every sports writer reads this and takes note: he’s got great character and he comes from a very good family upbringing with his mom and he also had the opportunity to be around two outstanding young men in Taco Charlton and Chris Wormley. Now, he’s the guy."

It's awesome to see the emphasis on character and learning from other men in the program.

Thanks OP. Very good interview.

Interesting to hear that 'our defense is built around the six-technique, the anchor,' and that it was more important to have Wormley there than at 3-tech where he 'would have been unblockable.' I don't think I've heard it put quite that way before by one of the coaching staff.

Him and Hurst will be special this year.

Let's not forget about Winovich either. He had incredible pass rushing efficiency last year. Looking for him to improve in the run stop, which is why the staff bulked him up this off season.

no doubt.  good chance we see a similar spread in stats and whatnot across the roster again  this fall with like 6-7 guys contributing big time.  havent seen hudson play but it wouldnt surprise if all 3 LBs push double digit TFL.  and while hurst, gary and others will certainly excel and post #s, also decent odds winovich leads the team in sacks (he has the motor, hes growing into that spot, and should see plenty of chances tearing off that weak edge)
