SIAP: Did Morgan Trent intercept Henne?

Submitted by SFBayAreaBlue on

was watching highlights in the background and thought I heard them say trent intercepted henne, can the board confirm this?

If so, congrats to morgan for catching on in the pro's.  Here's a guy that took a lot of grief from michigan fans, but it turns out, he's not that bad.  Plus, he's the guy that troy woolfolk reminds me of the most.  Hopefully troy can come back and save RR's job next year.

he did, it was a bad throw by chad into triple coverage and morgan undercut the thorw to pick it... cincy nearly returned the favor on the next play but the DB bobbled the ball right into the hands of TO for a touchdown...

I think Trent took a lot of grief from Michigan fans for reasons other than his ability. 1. He kind of quit on the team in 2008 and played pretty poorly and 2. He threw Carr under the bus when trying to take down Rich Rod.

The guy can play, no doubt about it, but there were definitely other issues. That being said, it's always nice to see a Michigan grad doing well in the pros.

Exactly. He was quoted in some book saying that Carr told him that the reason he went so low in the draft was because Rich Rod was telling NFL teams that he was difficult and that they shouldn't draft him. Basically everyone called bull shit (Rich Rod, the NFL teams, and Carr all denied it) and Trent had to apologize for making stuff up.

That's on the coaches. That's not his zone. He has to play 8 yards off because that's how that 3-3-5 alignment works, and when your SS (Or Spurs, Bandits, or what ever else Michigan has decided to call them) aren't adjusted to getting into the zone beneath the receiver quick enough (again, coaching), teams are going to slice your coverage up.

Now if you want to bring up the clip of Ted Ginn breaking his ankles without looking at Morgan (Or one of his other goodies), I'll giggle at that again and agree with your point. He just shouldnt get as much crap for that game as he did.

I get the attempt at humor but it doesn't entirely work for me.  The reason is that we don't know what kind of pros Rodriguez will produce on defense at Michigan because his recruiting classes are still in process.  That said, Carr et al. set the bar very high - Michigan produced some defensive studs under his watch.

Humor aside, I'd give Lloyd 6 or 7 out of 10 on defense.  (Rodriguez would get 0.6 or so on that scale so far.)

Even though he was a "defensive" coach (by breeding), there were too many disappointments (e.g., NW in '00/'01 and those 54 points) for me to rate him any higher there.  '97 looks like an outlier in retrospect.  Also, don't forget that in '06 the two best teams (by far) on the schedule ran it up on the defense.  (I'll always wonder how things could have been with more than one competent DB back there.)  Need I mention the first two games in '07?  Shameless cherry-picking, I suppose ...

One of his seldom-noted achievements, by my measure, was bringing some serious DTs to the campus.  That position (Josh Williams aside) and (to a lesser extent) the DE position were overlooked for years at Michigan and very underrepresented in the NFL (for what that's worth).

As people have already mentioned he did have an interception off of a horrible pass by Henne. However, just because he had a pic does not mean that he is a good NFL corner. Being a Bengals fan I watched him get beat badly all day long. The only reason he was on the field is because 2 of the top 3 corners are out. Jonathan Joseph will be back in the next couple weeks and Adam Jones is done for the season so Trent will atleast play the nickel. This probably sounds like I'm bashing him but I think it's just frustration boiling over from the weekend. He is actually a solid nickel corner for a 2nd year guy.

Trent was the #1 tackler for the Bengals this week.  I didn't watch the game, but when I heard he'd made an interception I checked the final stats.  I think it was 9 solo tackles and the pick.  Dhani Jones, who seems to have had a rebirth since going to Cincy, moved down to #3.  (Leon Hall got 2 solo tackles.)  Good game for the alumni, including the under-bus-throwing and fancy-tie-Mott-Hosp-benefitting.  And obviously those Mich-to-Miami guys named below, whose team got the win.

Our defense is awful, all future threads should deal with that topic and that topic only. /s

When RR surfs the blog tonight he might pick out some nuggets to try against the Illini. /s/s/s

If you're going to dump on the premise of this blog, which is to discuss Michigan Sports (aka football all year long), why are you here? Everyone understands their opinion doesn't matter unless that opinion causes them to stop buying tickets.

Trent absolutely assassinated Rich Rodriguez's character on Bengals Line last night on 700WLW.  Tried to find a link to no avail. Anybody else hear it?

I knew he didn't like RR, but damn. Seems to have thrown the whole program under the bus because of that.  Among other things he said RR doesn't play by the rules. It was about a 15 minute rant.  When asked if he made the change from WR to corner because of respect for Carr he said, and I paraphrase-  Yeah, but I wouldn't do it for that guy up there now.

He just went on and on. Really shed UM and Rodriguez in a bad light which I hate to see. Obviously Trent is not All In.
