This is sad and reminds of a lot of the Glenn Mason firing at Minni. Programs like Indiana and Minnesota are very lucky to get coaches like Lynch and Mason and they are beyond crazy when they fire them. For some reason the forget important things like say....I dunno...they're Indiana and Minnesota.

He may be a good coach who has no idea when to ramp it up or down. It is full go from the onset to the end, he should try to demonstrate some sense that he has it under control as a leader. It is easier to dismiss that type of personality.

Lynch isn't a good coach. Terry Hoeppner was turning around that program before his tragic death. Lynch won those 7 games on the team that Hoeppner built and then slid back.

He stepped into a difficult situation with Hepner dying of cancer and led the team to a bowl game. Lynch has recruited fairly well, for Indiana, and his teams were improving. This year IU had very close losses to Michigan, Northwestern, and Iowa, and were in the Penn State game until very late. Though prone to gum-spitting rages on the sideline, he recruited good kids and coached them up.

That's the good side. The bad? He seemed outcoached just about every game. He beat Purdue this year, Illinois last year, and Northwestern in 2008: three B10 wins in three years. Most conference losses were by multiple touchdowns. The closer games were often come-from-behind losses, like those to Michigan and NU last year; poor coaching decisions, IMO, contributed directly to those losses.

The new coach will have a renovated stadium with great facilities, several solid (again, by IU standards) recruiting classes, and a favorable in-state situation, with Purdue sliding. Could 6-6 seasons be in the near future? This Hoosier alum would love to see it!

Indiana's one of the two or three worst major conference programs historically, but Lynch was not the answer.
