SI Jinx?

Submitted by ChalmersE on
So after week two, Forcier makes the top right corner of SI. At that point, Michigan is back and Forcier is the second coming of Joe Montana or Fran Tarkenton or some equivalent. Since then, he struggled for a good chunk of the EMU game; struggled and got hurt against Indiana; struggled and threw an ot interception against State; struggled, got a concussion and was benched against Iowa; and didn't do a whole lot against Penn State or Illinois. So I ask -- tongue in cheek -- are all of our problems traced to the Sports Illustrated jinx?

There's really no two-ways about it. This is the one and only logical explanation. Memo to rich Micihgan alum: Buy SI and put Tressel on every cover forever.

it would normally be a jinx. however i casted a protective impenetrable bubble around forcier the should shield him from any type of SI curses or any evil that is trying to impose him. i tried to also inlude the anti-injury/freshman mistake prone formula with it, but my magic has just been off lately.

Good thing I didn't return any of those messages I got from the SI swimsuit cover-models because I would have gave into their pleads for companionship and been jinxed along with them (patting myself on the back).

i'm glad we've figured out the source of all our problems. For a second there i thought that maybe we were an extremely young, unexperienced team that can't play defense or win games against horrible big ten teams like iowa. I'm glad thats not the case.

We were also in the upper-right corner after the 2003 ND game. We went on to lose two of our next three and fell behind by 21 at Minnesota. So the effects of even a corner pic seem to linger for weeks.

...is that Tate stubbornly insists on playing with that Tiki idol hanging from his neck. /crosses fingers, hopes board readers watched "The Brady Bunch."

. . . it was the Detroit sports scene issue. At the time, we all thought that the jinx would be limited to the Tigers: they, after all, were on the cover, and then imploded spectacularly thereafter. But think about it: the Lions are 1-7 (with only a courtsey win provided by the Redskins), the Red Wings are in last place, the Pistons have opened with a thud, and, after the Notre Dame game (which, I think, was the week the issue came out), UM has exactly one win over varsity competition. Anybody know any good exorcists?

Shortly after signing day in 2008, I moved to Toronto. Since then, the team has gone through the worst two-year stretch since the sixties. Coincidence? I think not.
