SI Article about Stevie Brown and his surgery/recovery

Submitted by thisisme08 on

MMQB writer Jenny Vrentas went "all access" with Stevie Brown as he visited Dr. James Andrews to have his ACL repaired that he blew out in the preseason.

As is usual with the new MMQB site the article is excellent and provides an indepth insight into the surgery itself, and how players such as Brown (only signed a 1 year contract) face a long road back to the NFL.

Fair warning; there are pictures of his knee during surgery in the article.

Best of luck to Stevie on his recovery and hopefully he can retain that starting spot once he gets heathly.

The thing is, PK has an unparallelled network of sources within the league.  He's a great reporter, he's just an awful writer.  The nice thing about the internet age is that within hours of PK posting something, other writers will have reported on his tidbits in an actually readable format.

PK has a crazy amount of access purely because he won't report anything that might piss off even the lowliest assistant on any NFL team or anyone who can send Roger Goodell an email. This means any facts or breaking news that might be of actual interest go unreported.

For instance, he hinted in one of his columns that he knew which owners voted against the last collective bargaining agreement. Of course, he wasn't about to divulge that information (which didn't stop him from dickishly lording this knowledge over the reader) because he'd lose access. Unlike a real journalist, he doesn't really have anonymous, secretive sources within the ranks. He just has mutual ass-kissing relationships with operations-type people like Scott Pioli and Les Snead and coaches like Jeff Fisher, with whom he shares an agent.

That was actually a really nice piece on the procedure as well as a great glimpse into Brown's life as it stands at the moment. Glad to see him on the road to recovery and focused on what he needs to do in the moment to get better. Best of luck to Stevie Brown.

I hope he recovers fully.  The "silver lining" here is that he is getting paid $2 million this season.  If he never plays another down, he still has a great start toward a good life.

I had that ACL reconstruction with the patella tendon done in July... hadn't seen pictures of what my knee would have looked like during the procedure.  Glad that's behind me now.
