Should Vincent Smith see more playing time?

Submitted by Firstbase on
He looked elusive, tough and "first-step-quick" today. I realize the quality of the opponent makes a big difference, but I think this kid could really help. Does he deserve more PT? I think he should take on a greater role as part of the mix.

I agree that he was great today but Minor and Brown didnt play at all. Who knows what they could have done today. He will get his chance when the time comes and he solidified that by making a strong showning today but I see no reason to take the ball out of your two seniors hands going on unless it is to simply give them a break. It is a great problem to have, trying to find pt for all the good rb's we have!

Our 2 premier senior RBs don't play and everyone who ran the ball for M looked good. How can you use today as any evidence that someone should get more PT. More Vincent Smith means less MINOR RAGE and Carlos, so no, I don't think he should get more playing time. Use him the same as he has been all year, 4 carries or so max, to give Brown and RAGE and breather.

Smith looked great today, but there's more to playing running back than just taking handoffs (blitz pick-up, protecting the football, receiving, etc). I have more faith in 2 proven seniors to handle all of these things against tougher opponents. Smith will have plenty of opportunities once Minor and Brown graduate.

The biggest difference between a freshman RB and a senior RB is often how well they pick up blitz's and pass protect. If you are a great runner you are a great runner, but it takes experience and time to be great at pass protection. He'll get there, but he isn't there yet. And since he isn't there yet, when he is in the game teams can assume he is probably running, since they don't trust him in pass protection.

You have to believe Carlos and Brandon would of had huge days if they played. The RB situation next year should be very interesting with Shaw, Smith, Cox, Fitz?, Etc. I am very hopeful we can replace two solid seniors at that position.

I was impressed with his ability to hit the hole. He had great moves as well. The most impressive thing I saw was his ability to get YAC. He is a strong little dude. Also impressed with Shaw and Cox.

He should definitely get more playing time this year. Definitely. But only when Minor and/or Brown have given us a comfortable 4 touchdown lead. Thus, I would live to see more VS this year.

No, Smith shouldn't get more playing time. This sounds bad, but I wasn't that impressed, despite his 9.8 yards per carry. He didn't really do anything that great, in my opinion. He's not particularly fast or elusive or powerful. He's solid in all those phases, but I definitely don't think he's better than the guys in front of him. DSU just isn't very good. At all.

Smith played great but would still rather see Minor, Brown, and Shaw on the field. But with Smith and Cox the lose of Brown and Minor will not be that big of a loss.

i say NO, i am liking minor and brown, even though i think we should play shaw alot more the kid has Lots of skills if he gets a bit more carries i think hes gonna break out... v smith got caught from behind when he had open field, i think he still needs some time to develop, but i think shaw deserves a bit more time, its a good problem to have bc i am happy with brown and minor starting as well..GO BLUE! ps im moving to key west florida for the winter tomorrow anyone know how or if i can get games down there?
