Someone activate the Mod signal!

Edit: On the news front, I'm not shocked a bit. At this point, they'll do anything they think might help keep their boy.

just sign the team over to Lebron?  This whole thing is a joke.  After watching the last two games against the Celtics I can say this with certainty.  Lebron is a poor imitation of Michael Jordan.  Like him or not, and as a Pistons fan I couldn't stand him, Jordan NEVER took a game off, a quarter off or a minute off.  That guy was relentless.  You can not say that about Lebron.

That's very true.  HOWEVA, what people forget about MJ is that he was a very physical and relentless defender.  He was in your face and wore you down.  MJ was a huge trash talker and in your face competitor.

Lebron has a different personality (at least in this series anyway.)  Compare all of the NBA stars today, but not even Kobe or DWade played the level of defense MJ did.

LeBron has stated that his main focus is not championships, but to build his brand into a global entity. Jordan achieved his status only after focusing everything in his power on the goal of winning championships. LeBron is putting the cart in front of the horses and it is costing him dearly.

I am typing this quote as I listen to his press conference from last night, this is LeBron speaking, "First of all I wanna win, and um thats my only thing, thats my only concern right now."  This is not the first time that he has said that winning is his biggest priority.  While he has said in the past that he would like ot be a billionaire he has never put that above winning.

not playing Varejao for 40+ mins a game should lead to criminal charges not just a firing and this is coming from a celtics fan...

Water is wet.

He is one of the worst corches in the NBA and has sqandered a chance to bring Cleveland a title. I can't wait to see what other moves the Cavs make to keep LeBron. I'm not even a BBall fan, but this offseason should be interesting...unless you're a Pistons fan and your GM spent the last offseason ruining your team's opportunity to be a player in the best FA market of all time. Yay!

It was also enjoyable seeing the Pistons in line for possibly a top-3 lottery pick and then inexplicably going on a winning tear to finish up the season and probably knock them down to somewhere in the 6-10 range.

BTW, that is an awesome avatar - do you have the link to the full-sized version?

The worst part is they spent money on Gordon and Villenueva and still sucked as bad as if they had done nothing and saved their cap space and tradable parts. I know injuries were the culprit, but a mid-lottery pick won't fix this team like a couple solid FA players. I guess it's the safe move considering you're not guaranteed to land a big-time FA, but it sucks nonetheless.

As for the new pic, I was sick of the old avatar and went google searching. I typed in "Peter Griffin" and found gold: http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Peter+Griffin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=ZJPtS--NMMG78gaUouX9Cg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCkQsAQwAA

I'm tired of all the Lebron could be an awesome wideout/tight end talk. So's Jeremy Shockey. Like shockey or hate him, but he put it best when he said that lebron runs a 5.8 -40 or whatever it is, he's WAY too slow to play in the NFL.

Could he do it? sure, if he spent months training for speed, reshaping his body (like jordan did for baseball) and got faster, but right now? No way. NBA players don't run like NFL players

JeepinBen

Is in high school he ran a 5.3... which is good for a lineman.

Google has said varying things for it right now, most around... 4.6

Like I said, i bet if he trained he could do it, but he isnt going to the NFL.

Quoting Shockey's tweet: Jeremy Shockey doesn't buy it. King James wouldn't cut it in the NFL on Sundays. That is what the sometimes talkative New Orleans Saints tight end said via his Twitter account Wednesday night. "Everyone trust me Lebron James could not play in the NFL," he wrote on his Twitter account. "ESPN is crazy to even think he could even make a practice squad. He;s a 4.9 40 time."

Why on God's green Earth would you put any stock in what Jeremy Shockey has to say?  Are you one of those people that believed GW when he kept insisting that Iraq had WMDs, too?  Did you know that the word "gullible" is written on the bottom of your shoe?

I agree that him going to the NFL is rediculus, but you are vastly underestimating LBs athletic ability.

He is a freak. An athletic freak. 270 lbs and I'd be willing to bet he's faster than most big WRs. Hell, I bet he's faster than most WRs. Line him up in shorts and shirt on the start line and he'll compare really well to NFL standards. And that's all that matters because that's the only time they measure 40 times. All things get thrown out the window when you put pads on. Some guys stay around the same speed, some get a little slower.

Now I don't buy him being an immediate success in the NFL. He'd have to learn route combinations and technique. He'd have to prove he can catch a football. He'd have to prove he can get off LBs/CBs jamming him.

I don't like LBJ like a alot of people, but he is a once in a lifetime physical specimen.

I don't see why a TE-sized NFL player would be so much faster than a TE-sized NBA player.  They're still elite athletes, and frankly, Lebron James is a better athlete than 99% of the tight ends in the NFL.

If you think Lebron James would run anywhere near a 5.0, 5.3, or 5.8 forty, then you're ridiculously out of touch with reality.

If you put Lebron James in pads, coached him for 6 months, and turned him loose, there's no way that a 6'8", 270 lb. guy with his speed, leaping ability, and body control wouldn't be a Pro Bowl-caliber tight end.  If you made him eligibile for this year's NFL Draft, I bet he'd be a first round pick.

that was even quicker than I expected.  Mike Brown is not a good coach, and should not be an NBA coach, but he is not the reason that Cleveland lost that series.  Cleveland lost that series for one reason; Lebron James threw it - I am not exagerrating and really do believe this, Game 5 was pretty much open and obvious, he hid it better in Game 6 where his rebounds detracted from his mind-boggling ten turnovers, many of which looked blatantly intentional, but for his sake, I will lower the mens rea to knowingly or "with reckless disregard for whether a turnover would take place."  Lebron looked completely disinterested in the outcome of the game in Games 4, 5, and 6, just when he got to the brink of actual success and had to think about the reprecussions of continuing to win.  Why you ask?  Because he is leaving, and really did not want to win a title.  Winning a championship in Cleveland would have made it that much more difficult to explain his departure, and would have delayed his ability to get the f#%k out ot town, with pesky parades and all of that.  Call me crazy, perhaps I am.

The problem is that Mike Brown isnt that good of an offensive coach, he does a decent job on defense though. Then again the problem is when Lebron is the "point-forward" how much coaching can you be involved with when the game plan is "give Lebron the ball".

Yeah I gotta say, those last two games were just bizarre. At times it looked like he was almost intentionally turning the ball over, and he didn't seem to care the entire time.

ijohnb

May 14th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^

because caring was going to mean attachment, attachment was going to mean pressure to stay, pressure to stay was going to result in him reupping with Cleveland again when he didn't even want to the first time.  He checked out, completely, and I believe even tooks steps toward outright sabatoge.  It actually started against Chicago, the left handed free throw in the final seconds.  I'm sorry, you make the first, you go ahead and shoot the second with your sore arm even if it stings a little bit.  That was the first sign to me.

There is something off about Lebron, can't explain it, he will never reach the heights of those that came before him.

ESPN just said the report is inaccurate according to Rick Buchler. However I dont find this shocking because people were actually discussing days ago that if Cleveland loses that theres a good chance he gets fired because making it to the 2nd rd just doesnt cut it.

I think if Brown does get fired in order to try to keep Lebron, Cleveland will present him the opportunity to assist in picking the enxt head coach. Also the Calipari rumors I dont believe, he already had his NBA stint it wasnt too successful. Some people are meant to be college coaches and not professional coaches, and vice versa.

This situation sounds similar to the Pistons situation when Larry Brown took over for Rich Carlisle; perhaps management feels the Cavs need someone elst to take them past this point, a point that Mike Brown has failed to move past in two years. Basketball years are something like dog years in real life, you don't get the opportunity to be the champs every year, and time stops for no one.
