Shawn Hunwick retires from professional hockey

Per Hunwick's Twitter account, he's decided to hang up his skates and begin working for the Legacy Global Sports agency. Best of luck to him, his absence was more than felt last season.

Still a terrible miss that we couldn't get him a national title. Rudy could've kissed Shawn Hunwick's ass for how much better that story would've been than Rudy.

That was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. Matt Frattin led the NCAA in goals that year, and they averaged 4 GPG as a team. They rolled out four complete finesse lines, our lower pair guys didn't have enough speed to keep up. Against that monster of a team, we weren't going to win 3-2 or 2-1. The only way we were going to win that game was if Hunwick backstopped a shutout.

My all-time favorite athlete, hands-down.  The improbability of his career, his astonishing rise, his disarming humility, his total passion, and, at the last, an unlooked-for act of class (handing the puck from the game-winning shot of his final game to the Cornell bench) set him apart from all others.  Really glad that he has that Michigan degree & the Michigan hockey family to speed him on his way to success in every aspect of life.
