He had a GREAT run.
Shawn Hunwick retires from professional hockey
Montage I made when he signed with the Blue Jackets-
Godspeed, Tiny Jesus.
He didn't ascend into heaven after announcing his retirement did he? Because I would totally not be surprised if he did.
Still a terrible miss that we couldn't get him a national title. Rudy could've kissed Shawn Hunwick's ass for how much better that story would've been than Rudy.
f'ing close. Thanks for posting this.
The championship game was on his birthday too.... cruel OT fate :[
Which was also my birthday :(
That was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. Matt Frattin led the NCAA in goals that year, and they averaged 4 GPG as a team. They rolled out four complete finesse lines, our lower pair guys didn't have enough speed to keep up.
Against that monster of a team, we weren't going to win 3-2 or 2-1. The only way we were going to win that game was if Hunwick backstopped a shutout.
Great college hockey memories. I thank you, sir!
My all-time favorite athlete, hands-down. The improbability of his career, his astonishing rise, his disarming humility, his total passion, and, at the last, an unlooked-for act of class (handing the puck from the game-winning shot of his final game to the Cornell bench) set him apart from all others. Really glad that he has that Michigan degree & the Michigan hockey family to speed him on his way to success in every aspect of life.
