Shaq Thompson Eliminates Michigan

Shaq Thompson has eliminated us after this weekend. His new top 3 are ASU, Cal, and Washington. He's taking his last official visit to Utah in 2 weeks. He also semi-eliminated Oregon and said this,

"Those three have my attention right now," he said. "I was feeling Oregon too but the more I think about how small Eugene is, I'm not sure that fits me. I'm kind of a big city guy."

I'm not sure how big Eugene is but I don't really consider Ann Arbor a big city.

Barring something crazy happening, it doesn't look like he'll visit. We always knew he was a longshot but it was still nice to think we had a fighting chance.

However, we're pretty set at the safety position for a couple years. If we can put a full court press on Yuri Wright and Diggs that will more than make up for missing out on Thompson.

Though I've been out of the game for years, my understanding is that the, um, "talent" down at ASU is definitely awe-inspiring.  You bring some young kids down there, show them how girls dress on an average day, and you might nab some kids.  And yes, that is somewhat sexist and presuming the kid is heterosexual, but there is a reason that you hear about kids always wanting to visit certain random schools known more for their student body than their athletics/academics.

Portland is two hours from Oregon and while Detroit is not that far from Ann Arbor, I doubt that's the big city feel Shaq wants.

I do think it's kinda a shortsighted criteria to cut schools by, as both Ann Arbor and Eugene are good college towns, but Shaq obviously wants access to some of the bigger city stuff. Besta luck to him in his decision, too bad it wasnt Michigan.

It's pretty ridiculous to criticize his comment on city size. City size itself is a generalization obviously and the things that come along with that should absolutely be a factor on college choice. Whether good or bad. There are even schools in bigger cities with no college town. UC San Diego has no college town at all but is in the city. The college area atmosphere is a huge factor.

I'll take Dorsey as a substitute for Shaq. Given all the work he's put in, he really deserves to play for the Maize and Blue. A senior Thomas Gordon at strong safety, Junior Countess and senior Courtney Avery at the CBs. And Demar roaming centerfield. Sounds good.
