Shane Morris won the Nike Camp MVP !

Submitted by MWW6T7 on

According to TomVH twitter Shane Morris won the MVP award at the Nike Camp in Columbus today and was also awarded an all expense trip to the Gridiron Kings Competion in Orlando.  Beat out some really good kids for the award such as Gunner and Pike to name a few.  He  also received  the strongest arm award.

RT @S_Morris12 #2 QB at Elite11! MVP at the Nike Camp! And got invited for the all expense paid trip to orlando for gridiron kings! #GoBlue

No offense to the poster because I find posts like this perfectly fine, but why is this comment  allowed to stay up when others that are just as vapid and uninformative blanked out.  This new system is both confusing and extremely inconsistent.  Please give us some guidelines.  Is it OK to say "Great news, welcome aboard Terry!" and the like?

I think it's probably a good thing that you're not a mod. This place would have crazy stuff up all day, every day. About the guy you replied to though, it just depends whether people like the post or not. If it hits 0 or -1 then it's hidden, and you can control if you want to see posts at any level between -1 and +5.

That's really amazing, especially considering the fact that he's a year below guys like Pike and Kiel...can't wait for him to be Blue. We're on the up!

Like the page "Big Ten Athletics" on facebook, currently has 35 likes, just started it. I have to get a bunch of people to like it to beat my Buckeye friend in a bet. Help me out! Thanks!

Does this mean he'll be given a 3 star evaluation like every other presumed 5 star Sophmore destined for Ann Arbor the last 5-10 years?

This looks like the start of something really big.  I'm guessing 2 WR's next year ranked in the top 10 will be following along to AA with Shane.

Congratulations Shane Morris!  I guess Hoke wasn't kidding when he threw the Drew Henson scenario out there...by the time Morris graduates he's going to have some crazy level hype behind him. By the time he gets here he will be surrounded by plenty of talent if Hoke keeps his awesome recruiting going.

wonder if gunner kiel will still considering going blue after witnessing the next great QB a year behind him. i feel like he would go somewhere else where he doenst have to really fight for the starting job..

Looks like the analysis from Prepseer was spot on:

"Morris wasn’t the stud quarterback that I expected. It was the first time I’ve seen him. He has a decent arm and he runs the offense well–particularly for a sophomore. I don’t think he’s the Div. 1 lock that many fans are proclaiming. He’s not even the best in the CHSL Central. But, he’s only a sophomore and he will get better."

puts it out there wrt to his Michigan recruitment given Morris' commit.

I would be interested to read his take on Morris and his current ideas about Mich...but I doubt we hear anything until he makes his commitment decision given his close to the vest (ntVest) style.

"Shane is Tom Brady with a stronger arm."

Fred's son adds that he got to see Cam Newton play in high school and says, "Cam was great, but there’s something about this kid Shane. If I was to compare them as high school QBs, give me Shane Morris."

Fred Jackson is awesome and all joking is done in fun. How could you dislike a coach who is like Vince Lombardi, only better at motivating? Not to mention the guy has been an ace recruiter for over ten years. There's a reason why they put him in charge of Detroit this year.

Awesome. This kid is going to be amaizeing. Give him two more years to work on his accuracy and he's going to be really special.

Guys Shane is a really exciting recruit on a few levels.  One, he has younger brothers who are also very good.....

we have family connections to Shane.  He is a bright kid, grounded, and extremely talented.  He committed to end the process so he could focus on high school ball the next two years.  Obviously all his physical attributes were listed - he has a lot of potential.

He obviously is having  a lot of success in 7 on 7 - I was told he (course some bias involved) outplayed Pike in the 7 v 7.  Evidently Pike is a very cocky kid - not very likeable - and talks a lot.  Morris lets his play talk.  Now the Nike MVP.

He has been contacted by NFL quarterback coaches as well - they want to work with him.

Obviously a lot of hyped QB recruits fail (Ron Powlus), but I am really excited to see Shane get to UM.  Go Blue!

No way in heck will Kiel end up in AA now.  I wouldn't advise him to go to UM anymore, that would be WAY risky.  He's a great talent but take a close look at his arm strength and spiral, he clearly has some work to do.  Morris on the other hand, throws a beautiful over-the-top spiraled feather, and a lethal laser-guided cruise missile.  My thoughts were just confirmed by these awards just given to him.  I love hearing that receivers were "shying away from his passes."  Not to mention, he's tight boys with RJS, Ross, T-Rich, MO, Funchess, Burbridge, & he's bled blue his entire life.  Man-o-man how quickly the tides can change for Meechigan. His commitment will affect this year's O-line haul & even a possible flip by B Dunn.  How will our receiver haul end up in 2013?  I could go on and on, I'm still shocked and amazed daily at the job this staff is doing.  Go BLUE!!

Here is a link to an Espn article about the top QBs at the camp.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=6573302

QB Shane Morris (De La Salle HS, Mich.) Morris was one of the more impressive prospects in attendance regardless of class and the left-hander really made some impressive throws with accuracy and confidence. He has good height and is going to continue to add inches and bulk to his late-bloomer's frame. What stood out about Morris was the velocity and power and the manner in which he delivered the ball. Many lefties can really have a long, drawn out delivery that is more ¾ or sidearm, but not Morris. He had a quick stroke, was very accurate and threw as well on the run to both sides as any prospect on Friday. He is a definite Watch List candidate.

They don't have jurisdiction over his high school eligibility, but they can rule him ineligible for college ball down the road.  (I believe LeBron James was actually ruled ineligible to play in college at some point in his senior year of high school, not that it mattered.)  In this case, there's a loophole for these kinds of all-star events, so he's OK.
