Shane Morris: "not going to let (Rudock) take my job"

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Interesting quote from him at the A4 camp today.

Shane Morris says he sees U-M starting QB job as his to lose. Says he knows Jake Rudock came to take his job, "but I'm not going to let him"

And Rudock says "good luck" in his best Albanian sex trafficker voice.

Should be a fun camp and whoever wins the job will be better for it. But I'm still betting on Rudock with 96% confidence here.

..so many people have so much faith in this?

It seems to me that Rudock "earning" the start at Utah after being with the team for less than two months would send the program into full rebuild mode and cost them a chance at any meaningful championship games for the next three years. It would certainly mean there would be another new starting QB in '16.

On the other hand, if Morris is good enough to start Game 1 and steadily improves, in '16 they will have a 2nd year starter at QB just as Hoke's '12 and '13 recruits are upperclassmen. That puts us in much better position to have a special year.

No, it doesn't send the program in "full rebuild mode" if a 5th year senior with a lot of starting experience takes the reigns in year one. Boykin at TCU lead TCU to 12 win season in his first full season as a starter. JT Barrett led OSU to a Big Ten title as a first  year starter. Hell,Chad Henne did the same thing here.

When I said "rebuild" what I now see I meant to say was "reload". Meaning no matter how far Rudock takes them in '15 and I could easily see 9-3( +/-1), it might be worth playing the younger guys who are Harbaugh recruits in '16 which means that year might be a struggle as the youth gains some experience.

Plus notice I said if Rudock starts AT UTAH its a reload, but if Morris gets his chance, doesn't get the job done, Jake can come in and save the B1G season. Than in the spring Morris can have a last shot and still maybe a viable option in '16.

I just get the feeling that if Rudock comes in and gets that job in under two months that must mean either Morris is THAT bad, which could be true but doesn't bode well for the talent assessment of any '12/'13 recruit, or, if it doesn't seem that Shane is getting a fair opportunity, some of the Hoke recruits may start wondering if Harbaugh is ready to get "his guys" in. And that can degrade quickly into a split lockeroom and more "transition lag".

IMO Harbaugh is too savvy to trade the 'wildcard, dare to be great, make a statement on Kickoff Thursday! of Shane, the State of MICHIGAN kid, lightning up the night with 300 yards and 3tds announcing Michigan Football is back', for 'here's the guy who lost the job at Iowa but since the Mich program is so down, he's the savior'.

And if Drevno turns the mutton of a running game we had last year into the Wisconsin Prime Rib that Wilson had, you might as well put Brian Cleary in at QB and give that UofD Cub some love.

If Morris can keep a hold on the starting job, that must mean he's made a drastic improvement, which I'd happily take.

Rudock has vastly more experience and is much more proven than Morris. And Rudock performed fairly well in an Iowa offense that was pretty bad more often than not, meaning he could be even better here.

Long story short: if Morris can keep the starting job over a guy that has a lot of playing time and experience, I think that's a good sign.

Was it ever "his job" to begin with?  In my humble opinion, Shane should just keep quiet and focus on getting better, and improving his game.  The Hoke era is over.

Harbaugh brings an era of doing, not talking.

lol... Yes, 30 years ago when Michigan was ranked in the Top 10, Harbaugh was the Starting QB, a Heisman candidate, and they were heading in to a huge Rivalry game.

Big difference:  One guy was accomplished and playing for an accomplished team when he started talking.

The other guy has accomplished nothing and loves to talk.

BTW....to  your other point, Shane has nortoriously trolled OSU on Twitter on more than one occasion...so yeah he should just STFU and start SHOWING instead of YAPPING.

Saying this does not in anyway improve him or his ability. Im sure Shane is working his butt off right now and that is sufficient. One could easily read into this comment a sense of entitlement, although im not going to go that far with it.

It could also be a self-motivation tool, staking his claim and daring himself to live up to it... kinda like a certain UM QB who guaranteed a victory over OSU.

For Morris to win the job, that means he's better than a solid, experienced B1G starting QB.  That bodes well for M if he does indeed win the job.  Forced to bet, however, I would put my money on Rudock.

Exactly. I couldn't find that article a little while ago. Some people assume that a player being lower on the depth chart means they were actually beaten out in competition. Not always.

I'm pulling for Shane but I think Rudock is going to win the job I think the depth chart at QB is 1 Rudock, 2 Gentry, 3 Morris. Look for Morris to transfer along with Speight.

looking really good. He's got a pro arm and decent mobility. If he beats out Rudock, it means he's solved the touch issue and also the part between the ears. We've seen Rudock's ceiling, but not Shane's and I think Shane's is a helluva lot higher.

And not letting him take it is fine to say...that doesn't mean Rudock isn't going to win the comp, it just means Morris isn't giving it to him.
