Shane Morris: "not going to let (Rudock) take my job"

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Interesting quote from him at the A4 camp today.

Shane Morris says he sees U-M starting QB job as his to lose. Says he knows Jake Rudock came to take his job, "but I'm not going to let him"

If he wants to play in the NFL, he's going to get the best coaching he could ask for. Going somewhere else and starting isn't likely to get him to the NFL if he's not good enough to win the job here. He's a serious student, who wants to attend medical school. The year spent here is more valuable for that career than most places he could have gone.

I think Shane could excel in the deep passing game, and perhaps Harbaugh can tailor the offense to that strength. But we need to have receivers that can stretch the field and Im not sold that we do. I think Shane will always struggle with check downs and slants. It just isn't his game.

...the only legit game to judge Morris on his the KSU bowl game.

He had a month of 1st team reps in a half competent offense and handled his first start in a high pressure situation and for a true freshman did pretty darn good. Now he's getting 6 months of "1st team reps" (I realize there's no formal practice but he's still getting the leadership experience and working timing with receivers)with Harbaugh's coaching and gameplan.

Morris maybe an overhyped arm without the touch to ever be efficient enough to be successful but nothing that he has or hasn't done so far even comes close to proving that.

And you know Jim loves that competitive spirit.

Plus a "Morris Resurrection" into a B1G Champ would go a loooong way to erase the incompetence of last year; not to mention be an awesome "those who stay" story.

With the first pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Santa Clara 49erz take Shane Morris, quarterback, Michigan.

That's the exact right attitude to have and the reason Harbaugh is bringing in so many QBs.  Even if you have a good QB, having others to keep them competing makes them better.

Competition will bring out the best in them. May the best QB win.

I don't mind seeing a comment like this from Shane. He knows that he has to step his game up in order to start at Utah. It seems like he is bent on doing just that.

Riiiiigggghhhhhhtttt... And I remember Russell Bellomy saying something to the effect of "all hell was gonna break loose" after he recovers from his injury. Let your actions speak for you, Mr. Zero Touchdowns.

I dont see why this quote is thread worthy - I'd expect anyone to think this on the team.

But in Shane's case he has done little to nothing on the football field and sometimes it is better to carry a bit stick and speak softly.  I think that is what the guy you are responding to is probably implying.  If he was a returning starter with a year with 24 TDs and 11 INT and 2300 yards at least he would have something to back up the words.  He has nothing really - it's either awesome bravado or empty rhetoric depending on your viewpoint.

I am with that view - and what Harbaugh says - he says we don't want to talk about it, we want to be about it.  Be about it Shane.

This is how it begins. Harbaugh already has these kids foaming at the mouth to compete and it's not even August. The laid back Hoke regime is fully over. Time to battle for your jobs, gents, or they will get taken from you.

Whoever it is, it will be interesting to see Michigan start a pro-style/non-dual threat QB again for the first time since Threet.

If we had more down field threats at receiver I'd probably prefer Morris to Rudock. Based on our personnel I think Rudock is more suited. I think he'll do well with Butt and Darboh as our top 2 options

Don't mean to sound glib...

... But it's not Shane's job yet. He hasn't been named the starter nor has he been named the leader (at least from my inside sources). I like the attitude but he hasn't earned the right to lose a job he doesn't even have.
