Shane Morris interview at The Opening - via ESPN chat

Submitted by samsoccer7 on

Didn't see this posted.  This is ripped from the chat wrap ESPN has for The Opening.  It's interesting to see Shane's response to a few questions (notably about LaQuon, Dawson, and Arnett).  I'm assuming this happened not too long ago.  Enjoy...  Oh, it seems like someone was reading the questions to Shane and he was answering, hence the weird person quoting a person thing at the beginning.

Hey Shane, Laquon Treadwell in Maize and Blue soon? #GoBlue

Corey Long: Morris: Yes sir, definitely going to try to get him to pull the trigger soon.

Comment From Alex
Shane, who are you trying to recruit this week?

Shane Morris: Derrick Green, Treadwell, Leon McQuay, Alvin Bailey

Comment From KC
who is the best receiver you have thrown to on the camp circuit??

Shane Morris: That's a great question. DeAnthony Arnett

Comment From Melo
Accuracy / Consistency, can you improve this before you go to Ann Arbor?

Comment From Pete
Shane, are you going to keep these Florida boys off Dave Dawson? We need that line intact!

Shane Morris: Yeah, we've been talking to him, he's just messing with Florida

Comment From Josh
Shane, you gonna make a Glee appearance?

Shane Morris: That's my dream. Non-football related, that's one of my goals.

Comment From brent
You seem to be a natural leader. do you think this class is the tightest in the country? and do you think you will stick together until signing day?

Shane Morris: Definitely,. our class is a huge family and we keep in touch every day through the phone or social media. No one is leaving.

Comment From Will
What are your thoughts on playing behind the offensive line haul over the last 2 years?

Shane Morris: It's an honor to play behind such a great class of linemen, I can wait for the opportunity.

Comment From Viv
Glee or Kate Upton? or PLL

Shane Morris: Kate Upton for sure.

Shane Morris: One more guys

Comment From Sean
Hey Shane! A lot of people say that the high school football talent in Michigan is not as good as the talent in Texas, Ohio, California, etc. What are your thoughts? Go Blue!

Shane Morris: Overall our best vs. their best is right there. We've proved at at the camps and tournaments. People can tell that Michigan talent is just as good!

Shane says that no one from the class is leaving.  I would guess that in the end we may lose a player but if he is not worried right now,  then I am not either.  I thinking waiting around for someone to de-commit will drive you crazy for the next 7 months.

@Smitdog: Here's the thing.  It's people like you that turn simple tweets into widespread viral rumors about a guy potentially decommiting, that eventually lead to more and more comments taking things out of context and changing words around (like "ditching"), that eventually leads to blog posts from idiots in Ohio, the eventually leads to articles on recruiting sites with inflammatory headlines meant to sucker people into paying to read them.

There are no winners in this situation.  You may think that you'll be a winner if he eventually decommits... because you told us so!  But then we just won't like you even more.

I don't follow him either, but sarah hughes tweeted about it and said that apparently the michigan commits ditched dawson, and he was now hanging out with the florida commits.

also, in the interview espn did with one of the florida guys, he specifically mentioned trying to flip dawson. Something to watch out for to say the least.

ok, so here's what he tweeted a couple of hours ago:

"Michigan cats left me ..smh" immediately followed by "Cooling w/ the UF boys"

take it for what its worth. (ie, not much). hopefully its nothing and hes just messing with his guys. hopefully shane remedies that asap. not sure if shane had made it to the opening yet when this was tweeted.

Shane and co. ditching Dawson wasn't intentional I would imagine.  I read the ESPN interview earlier as well and although the Florida guys were talking about flipping Dawson, Shane made it pretty clear Dawson was still solid on us.  It's the first day of the camp so I wouldn't make anything of it unless it is a reoccuring ordeal over the next three days.

I wouldn't make anything of it even if it is a reoccurring thing.  Try to think back to when you were in high school.  Jokes get beaten to death and then resurrected and beaten again.  It's called being a kid.  Actually it happens as an adult too, so really it's just called being a human being who doesn't take life too seriously.  If he takes a visit to Florida I'll worry.

If you guys are going to change "left" into "ditching" why dont you change the words around in the Florida tweet too so the connotation will fit your point.  I would suggest changing the word "Cooling" maybe to "talking about our future" or "bonding" if you want it to have full effect.

Another tweet that I saw that was raised my eyebrow was this one, by Josh Winslow.

Michigan verbal top-10 OG David Dawson still planning to camp at UF's Friday Night Lights, despite Hoke policy against commits taking trips.

I haven't seen any confirmation of this or it being denied by anyone. I haven't even seen it adressed by anyone else, but if true, I'd hope Hoke handles it the same as he has in the past.

I think camping is a different issue, if Dawson were to go on a tour I think Hoke might have a concern. NTFC camps happen in popular college football towns so there is no reason to think that he can attend those camps without attending this one. But discliamer, my name is not Brady Hoke and I am not termendous so I can just be talking from my butt.

That's something I thought as well, but at the same time, it is directly affiliated with Florida, so it'll be interesting to see what Hoke does.

I know OSU has a Friday Night Lights thing as well. I'm not 100% sure if it's a camp, but I think it is. More importantly, it's a huge recruiting tactic of theirs, so I want to see whether Hoke treats this as a camp or a visit.

I don't like that policy in this situation.  It's not like he is scheduling an official visit on a random weekend just to spend time at the university.  This is a camp, won't rivals, scout, 24/7 be there?  Dawson has shown that he enjoys participating in camps and testing his abilities.

I've never heard of him before and cites no sources. Is he affiliated with any recruiting service? It just looks like wishful thinking from a guy in Columbus, OH trying to continue to fuel this.

Unless I hear it straight from the kid's mouth (and I don't mean overanalyzing his twitter feed) or a real Michigan analyst, I am not even going to worry about this one.

Dawson always talks about loving the competition at these camps. Maybe he's just looking for a challenge? I'm sure he's also hoping to get a cheap look at Florida in the process but hopefully it's only a tiny part of why he's going.
