Shane Morris appreciation thread

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

Shane has been wanting to play for Michigan his entire life. Now this has happened.

His coaches and system have failed him and gotten him hurt. I can only imagine what's going through his head with all this press as well. This is not what he signed up to play for here. I just hope he can come through this and still be a great QB for us.

At this point I just hope there are no lasting effects.

I wouldn't blame him if he decided he needed to seek out a safer situation.

I know it's been said but no matter what the excuse is this is simply unacceptable. And every excuse the staff/program make just makes it worse.

But first and foremost get well soon Shane.

None of the players signed up for this bullshit.

It's amazing the commits haven't all left yet.

The helpless feeling I have watching this whole thing burn down and crumble is sickening. Wonder if someone will ever step up and show leadership.

But yeah, Shane. No one was more excited than me when he committed because a guy from my area would finally get their big shot at Michigan. He lives pretty close to my house, actually.

IMHO - the recruits will wait to see what falls out.  They have plenty of time, especially since they are 4* and 5* kids.

What if we get a Harbaugh or similar hire? My guess is that they will stay.  Not leaving now holds their spot on the team.

Appreciate everything you give for the UM program, Shane.  And same with all the rest of the players.  I wish I could say it'll get better soon, but since we can't be sure Brandon is on his way out, we can't say that.

I think Shane has put tremendous effort and work into playing QB for Michigan, and should be lauded for his efforts.

But Michigan absolutely did not get Shane hurt.  The coaching staff is guilty of recklessly risking further injury by keeping him on the field when he obviously was hurt.  But the "coaches and system" did not get him hurt.  A really cheap and stupid shot from Minnesota's player is what hurt Shane.

It's an important distinction, because things have gotten awfully shrill around here.  Hoke was absolutely derelict in his responsibility to protect Shane, and it was disgusting to hear Hoke try to defend his decision by saying, essentially, that Shane's a warrior and wanted to play on.  It's not the player's decision.  I get that.  And it was idiotic of Hoke and Nussmeier to keep Shane on the field after he had been targeted.  I get that, too.

But let's stop accusing Hoke and the other coaches of injuring Shane.

"Hoke was absolutely derelict in his responsibility to protect Shane, and it was disgusting to hear Hoke try to defend his decision by saying, essentially, that Shane's a warrior and wanted to play on."

Not only that, but he should have lit into somebody's ass because that shit stain wasn't ejected for that hit. People say that this team is soft, and to me, that is a reflection of the coach. I have a hard time believing a coach like Harbaugh or Saban would have taken that in stride without becoming completely unhinged.

This whole fiasco is the only time I've understood why people care about headsets. Somebody needed to be in Hoke's ear telling him to get his ass out on the field and let the referee have it. They could've gotten it right as targeting immediately if Hoke had gone crazy on the sidelines. Shane would've come out and been evaluated immediately if they had.

This thing was misplayed.  But the outrage about it is overboard.  It's a volcano of Michigan angst in the perfect storm of Brandon's corporate spirit and Hoke's inability to put a winning team on the field.  I'm not defending anyone's actions in this particular instance, but attacking Hoke's character and some people going as far to suggest he had a death wish (seriously?!?) for his player is way too far.

We, as Michigan fans and community, never accepted RichRod then pushed him out after 3 seasons of F -> D -> C football.  Now we're doing the same to Hoke after B+ -> B- -> C -> C football.  WE basically fired Borges, and I believe we would be better RIGHT NOW with him. We hate Brandon, so we hate everything and anything the athletic department says or does.

Fire Brandon, OK.  Fire Hoke, OK.  But can we fire ourselves while we're at it?  I'm the biggest Michigan fan around and our pretentiousness and arrogance is becoming way too much for me to handle.

I'll go on record right now and say that he'll have a great junior and senior year.  He's got the arm strength and the desire - you can just tell that he has fire, I like that.  This won't break him - and in all honesty, I think 2.2 years from now when he looks back on his career here, he'll look back at this situation as the catalyst for him to work harder.  It sucks right now, but I just really believe he'll be one of the good ones.  If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but fuck it - I'm putting good vibes out there.

You should have one for his parents too.  I cannot imagine they were not in the stadium and watching that horror unfold in front of their eyes and now to see the aftermath.  Can't imagine.

Shane Morris, if you ever read MGoBlog, know that it is still my dream for you to one day throw an 80-yard bomb to Freddy Canteen to clinch a come-from-behind victory in the Shoe.

Get well, keep fighting, Go Blue.

1. Thank goodness for his bad ankle I guess.  Based on the words of Hoke and Nuss, Morris would've continued to play with a "probable concussion"

2. I have no problem with Nuss saying Morris should have been given a chance to finish the game, but only if the injury was not an issue.  My first game as a student was the UVA game in 1995.  Everybody booed Driesbach and Carr in favor of Griese.  Three touchdowns later, everyone was celebrating a great comeback.  So at least there was precedence for a major 4th quarter comeback with a new quarterback.

Shane - I'm sorry about what transpired on saturday afternoon.  You are a true warrior and a class act.  Thank you for being who you are.

Take care, Shane, and keep the faith that things will get better before your time at Michigan is over. We believe in and support you and the Team!

of Shane Morris (not that they'll see this) my wife and I watched on Saturday the complete lack of responsibility that these "adults" in charge showed, and were appalled. My wife, at one point, was in tears screaming at the tv to take Shane Morris out. Until then she didnt even know who Shane was but yet as a mother she placed herself in your shoes for those few moments and completely lost her mind and rightfully so. After the game I was on FB, Twitter and here looking for something; some sort of plausible reasoning as to why what happened, happened. I couldn't find one and cannot imagine what you went through as you watched your son nearly fall to the ground in obvious pain with as we know now a concussion. My heart goes out to you and the rest of your family.

To Shane Morris: Shane, we all appreciate and respect your toughness young man. Keep being the competitive player you are and you will go far in this game. You are an ambassador to the University of Michigan and as a parent and fan I truly hope you get well soon. Go Blue!

Shane Morris is one tough dude. He took a hit like that and his instincts were to wave the coaches off and play on. I bet his team mates respect the hell out of him.

I hope he heals quickly from his injuries and has a great career at Michigan.

We have 2 QB's that have sacrificed health for the team. To bad we don't have that same type of leadership in the AD and Head Coach. These kids deserve so much better.

deserves so much more than what they're receiving, in what I assume to be every aspect of the program, minus their classroom education.  They've been failed by the people they put their trust in when they signed up.  Shame on Hoke, shame on Brandon, but a big tip of the cap to Shane and the rest of the team for showing up to play hard every week.

This thread was overdue. Shane deserves our respect and appreciation and he certainly has mine. I'll be rooting for him to bounce back from this experience and look forward to seeing him back on the field next season.

We needed this thread, I think, so thanks for posting it.

Going back to the time when he first appeared on the recruiting radar, it seemed clear Michigan was where he wanted to be and that being the QB at Michigan was his dream. He's dedicated and he has competed for his spot. In his first regular season start for Michigan, he ends up getting hurt and then through some confusion and what seems like negligence, he is put into a position where he can get hurt even more than he already is. I can't even imagine how he feels right now, and shame on the people that put him in this spot. I hope he bounces back and has a great career as a Wolverine.

The Morris incident is over... Shane does not want all this negative attention for the school or him. So Shut the hell up. Stick by the team they need to focus on winning football games.
