Se'Von Pittman to MSU
Well, I said this several months ago:
Ohio State will get their pick of the litter. Michigan will get their pick of whoever's left.
Now all this Ohio State nonsense has thrown a wrench into those plans, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for Michigan. Even the combination of OSU and Michigan probably couldn't have taken every single one of those DE's, so guys like Pittman and McMullen are starting to break away even further from that plan.
Do you think he was involved with some OSU money? Do you think Michigan would turn him away if he was in any way tied to the current scandal?
Wherever you go, desire is desire... The sun cannot bleach it, nor the tide wash it away...
I'm not going to speculate on that.
Good for MSU. I know he had some grade issues, but hopefully it all works out. MSU does have some nice D-line recruits, though I still like everyone in this class and the past couple of years. And for all the people freaking out about it, let it go. MSU is going to get some decent kids - they always do. But right now, I like how this class is working out and think that the future is bright for Hoke.
Anyone else think it's sad that this has more comments than any of our commits threads got?
No not really because our commitment threads get locked after Tims "Hello" post. Plus this was a surprising commitment followed with a lot of speculation over whether he tried to commit to us last week, why we slowed on him being available spots or grades, and he is a good player.
I will throw out there that my friend from PA who works for a recruiting site has told me that we may be underestimating our chances with Noah Spence. I just think its interesting that everyone here is assuming it is Wormley and Washington. Personally I believe we are in great position for Wormley and are still going to keep recruiting Washington, Spence and even Odenigbo hard.
Mitch McGary is a wall
There must be something more aspparent to the coaches about Pittman that as to date is not public info. It could be about grades but my hope is that this means more about our chances with Wormley and Washington. The coaches have worked some wonders so far so the benefit of the doubt should for sure be given them.
Magnus is on the right track. The rumor is that Hoke wouldn't (or couldn't?) accept Pittman's verbal because the young man has not yet passed the state of Ohio graduation exam. Justin Turner was in a similar type situation and it took forever to get resolved. It just doesn't make sense right now for our coaches to save a spot for a kid who may very well not qualify when we're still in on some very good defensive linemen.
stated that he'll enroll early so we'll see if he is able to do it. Maybe it's the grade, maybe it's he's lower in the pecking order on DE that they didnt' want to tell him that in person. We'll see.
Pittman can't graduate until he passes all parts of the exam. So far, he has not done that (rumor, of course). He has plenty of time to do so. Had he waited until later on in the year to make a decision (and had passed all parts of the exam), then Hoke likely would've accepted his commitment. Pittman liked MSU enough that he chose to commit rather than wait it out with UM. No biggie. I wish him all the best.
I'm not from Ohio and not familiar with the OGT, so here it is for others who are interested. There is also an alternative pathway:
- Pass all the tests but one, and earn at least a 390 on the failed test;
- Have a 97% attendance rate, not including excused absences, for each of the last four years;
- Have not been expelled in the past four years;
- Have a GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 in the subject area of the failed test;
- Complete the high school curriculum requirements;
- Have taken “intervention programs” to help their performance on the tests and have a 97% attendance rate, not including excused absence, in those programs; and
- Receive a letter recommending graduation from each of the student’s high school teachers in the subject area of the failed OGT and the student's high school principal.
Avatar is a reference to this. Go Blue!
Those "alternative pathways" may not be acceptable to the Clearinghouse or our admissions office.
It would make a lot of sense if it would be acceptable to the clearing house, but not to the admissions office, hence creating a potential reason for why we may have cooled on him. If you can't get into the school, we can't accept your commitment.

If Hoke didn't take him because he had doubts as to whether he would pass it...that's saying something different.
He was good enough for MSU - that makes him technically good enough for us academically as we both have the same minimum standard. Though we hold to a higher average standard we all limbo for talent as good as the 61st best player in the nation.
If he enrolls early, as he says he would like to do that will put an end to this talk. The staff didn't do an in home with him. They've looked at his grades and path to graduation but as has been said - if both parties wanted Se'Von to be Blue - he'd be Blue.
Over on the RCMB they are talking about how Pittman's comittment is going to open the floodgates to more big-name recruits. I like their enthusiasm but I just don't see it.
"They will meet a dastardly fate here for that! There isn't a Michigan Man who wouldn't like go out and scalp those Buckeyes right now."
They are also laughing it up at the number of stupid posts in this thread claiming Michigan didn't want him. Several people on this board are giving the majority of us a bad name. Is it not possible that Pittman just flat out chose MSU? Last I checked then had a pretty good season last year. Congradulate the kid on the opportunity to get a free education via sports, don't chastise him on the school he selected. I never heard him bad mouthing UofM.
That cold be true. According to MSU's scout page a pretty good LB from Illinois (Morrison) was offered a scholarship from MSU today and he immediately put them as his front runner. He recieved scholarship offers from big programs, such as Alabama, Florida, Miami-FL, Tennessee and Oregon, along with second level Div I programs, like Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa.
Morrison looks to be a fine looking prospect, but have to wonder why none of the big name Big10 schools have offered this Midwest kid? Usually if the kid is a good one and in the Midwest... PSU, Iowa, Wiscy, Michigan, OSU all/some would have offered. Not trying to knock the kid, just interesting...
Wow. Great pick up for them, I still would rather have Noah Spence and Washington. We could really use Jordan Diamond, Yuri Wright, and Zach Banner.
"When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing."
We must have a good shot at Wormley and Washington don't you think? That and the rumor that Pittman and Washington didn't want to play together seems to make sense with the whole slow-play vibe we've been hearing. As long as we get Wormley, and hopefully Washington, this won't hurt too bad. We can't take every good recruit.
Great grab for MSU, but we may never know if he committed to Michigan, and Michigan told him to hold off. That was the rumor, and it could possibly be true. I guess this would be a great way to get back at a school that turned you away after they offered. Head to their in-state rival. We don't know the true story though.
The fact is that a top DE will be going to one of our biggest rivals. Just hope he doesn't turn into a monster that we'll have to worry about every year, the kid has that kind of potential. Washington becomes an even bigger target now, need to lock that kid up.
We get ours. But recruiting is off the field, although obviously important.
We'll see who wins this year and every year ON the field.
It is very irritating that State has a winning streak against Michigan and let's hope it ends THIS year.
I feel sorry for him when he thinks of what couldve been after he grauates 0-4 against the WOLVERINES!!!
Let's MOVE ON!!
I mean how many " we didn't want him anyhow" posts can be posted before enough is enough?
Making up stories like his grades were an issue with nothing to back it up?
Making up stories that he tried to commit and was refused?
Pretending like Hoke was slow playing him for what ever reason you want? Isn't it far more likely Hoke realized the kid wasn't recipricating interest and spent his time, wisely, on other recruits?
Calm down, Hoke has a fine class brewing. No reason to make up rumors and outright lies to makeyourself feel better.

You are right in that there was no way Michigan could have fit all of those guys on their commitment list, so how come some people are saying that all of those guys (except Wormley) would have chosed OSU if they were not having the problems they currently have? That is why I do not believe Michigan would have lost on a lot of these guys you just mentioned. I believe that Strobel, Odenigbo and McMullen (possibly) would have commited to OSU, but Wormley, Washington and Pittman (mostly Wormley) would have ended up at Michigan, although I am beginning to believe Washington is losing interest in Michigan.
