Se'Von Pittman leaving OSU

according to 11warriors Se'Von Pittman has been granted his release.  I believe he was a guy with heavy interest in Michigan at one point,  he must have seen the writing on the wall with all the young, talented, DE's osu has.  He seems like a talented kid.  It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

I am become Tim Hardaway Jr.  Destroyer of Worlds

It could have been a "maybe you should go some place where you can get more playing time"  type thing.  Or maybe he was just unhappy there.

When you bring in that many talented players in three classes, there are bound to be casualties.  There were like 6 or 7 DE prospects who are 4-stars or better over the span of three classes.  Since Pittman left, that just means that now Tracy Sprinkle or Chase Farris won't.

Urban Meyer has a tradition that every freshman has to put a piece of black tape on their helmet, a right of passage. As the players work harder and meet their goals during camp, an upperclassman removes it. From what I read, Pittman was the only freshman who did not lose his black stripe.

Hate to say it but I like that.  I really like what that symbolizes on all levels.  I'm sure we do something simillar but got to give the devil his due.....that is a pretty cool tradition.

Rich Rodriguez tried something similar.  In particular, I remember Jerald Robinson, Tate Forcier, and Austin White all having to "earn their wings."  Obviously, all those guys have transferred since.

I always thought that his problem was, and Tate is a good example, he only knew who to tear players down and that doesn't work with everyone.

I think of justin turner too.

I am not condoning or condeming richrod, just saying that the 'wings' program is a good example of negetive reinforcement.

It's all perception.

Giving all the freshman a stripe and having them work towards losing it is good. Everybody does it, you earn the right to be a part of the team. If the player fails it's his fault, not the coaches.

Taking something away from a select few who are underperforming is bad, now it's not a right of passage it's a punishment. You singled out a player in front of his teammates and embarrassed him, there's no going back from that.

Yeah, it was very disappointing to see how he tore down Denard and Taylor. You'd think he would have learned how to positively motivate players after the disaster with Pat White and Steve Slaton.

I'm pretty sure most programs have something similar if not quite as ritualized.  I must say, I really do like the idea of an upperclassman removing the tape;  builds more community in the team than a coach doing it.

I actually kinda like this idea too. It makes sure that the kids don't get too cocky and understand that just because they might have been highly touted coming out of high school, there are still guys that have been in the program longer and and know what it takes to make it at their school. I thought I remembered hearing stories about Meyer doing something with pink jerseys too, but I don't think it had to do with freshman.
