GO BLUE!
They play that game at least once a month.
One of many games that gets constant run. BTN seems to have a surprisingly small library.
From what I understand, BTN would have to pay out the you know what to air a lot of other games...ie: ESPN/ABC
that Bama was a hot team with killer speed and huge guys and how was U-M gonna cope with them. Hmm, this sounds familiar, Hoke was on that staff too and I think this is a better staff than that one, especially at OC and DC.
That Bama team was never expected to win as many games as they did. They were coming off a 4-7 season in 97 and a 7-5 season in 98. It was still Florida's conference at the time.
They did end up losing by a point to Louisiana Tech and they couldn't do much of anything against Tennessee. They also had several battles that seemed to go down to the 4th quarter. Their defense was O.K., nothing like what they have now. They finished the season strong though with a win over 2nd place Mississippi State and a pounding of a medicore Florida team in the SEC title game. They were favored over us but not by that much. Normally I'm pretty negative going into a big game but even I liked our chances against them. The media loved them because they were a surprise team who won the SEC.
For years after this game, Bama fans posted on message boards how they should have won because they're great, they're bama, they're an SEC school, blah, blah, blah. And every time I would respond to them that they were extremely fortunate the game went into overtime at all what with A-Train fumbling the ball away at the 1 yard line and Hayden Epstein getting a game winning field goal blocked in the final seconds of regulation. The Big Ten was far and away the best conference in college football that year despite the Buckeyes not even making a bowl game.
I wish I liked our chances against them as much this year but Mike DuBose is not even in the same time zone as Nick Saban. Saban can get the best players money can buy ala-USC and he can oversign to his heart's content. DuBose somehow put one good season together during a stretch of 5 losing seasons for the Tide.
Their defense was #1 against the run wasn't it? Once Michigan started slinging it with Brady it was over.
I went to the game after spending the previous week in Key West, basically partying like a rock star for about 5 days straight. I was a mess when we drove from Key West to Miami to go to the game. There were a few fights between Michigan and 'bama fans that night, as I recall, including that guy who wears a cape (Superfan?).
These were by far my favorite road jerseys... the only away duds that even came close to rivaling our home blues. Somehow the blurry, low resolution broadcast from 2000 makes them look even better. Magical, somehow.
Anyways, it got me to thinking, I see a lot of calls going michigans way in this game. Holds and such..
Does anyone know which conference is refereeing the cowboy classic? I'd feel much better if it isn't the sec. I live in Louisiana, so I should be used to the sec, but I just don't trust them.....
Satisfied my own curiosity. At least its not sun belt like the 05 Alamo bowl. Big 12 (B12G?)
1: I bought clothes too tight my senior year of high school.
2: I put on about 20lbs. since then.
3: I gave it away 4 years ago.
