Service Day

Submitted by uofmdds96 on
Today, 16 Alumni and family from the U of M Club of Greater Toledo participated in the National Alumni Community Service Day. We were at the Toledo Seagate Food Bank. From 9-11:30, we packaged 500 boxes of food for needy seniors in the area. The Food Bank touches over 90,000 people each year. In addition to the dry goods that we packed, they have their own garden and work with area farmers to get fresh produce into the city. Interestingly, they have a kitchen in which they have classes to teach these folks how to cook from scratch and use some of these ingredients cheaply and nutritiously so they don't have to rely on hot dogs and mac and cheese. I would be interested to hear what the other clubs were up to today.

I am afraid I have no idea what the Denver Alumni organization is doing, but you have motivated me to get connected. Nice job U of M Club of Greater Toledo !

Unless I missed or forgot something, the Alumni Association Club Of Downriver did not have anything going this weekend. I will definitely bring it up to the President of my chapter. At work, we actually volunteer at Gleaner's in Taylor every quarter and spend an afternoon packaging food boxes, so perhaps it could be something like that as well. Awesome work, Toledo alums.

The Milwaukee Alumni Association volunteered with the Urban Ecology Center, Link to website, doing some park clean-up. They do community education programs about the environment/nature/conservation and are also building an arboretum in Milwaukee now, definitely good times, Go Blue!!
