Semper Fidelis Bowl (Hurst and Douglas)

Submitted by flysociety3 on

For anyone interested, the Marine Semper Fidelis Bowl just started on the NFL Network.

Michigan has DT Maurice Hurst Jr. and CB Ross Douglas playing for the East (Blue) team, and there are a ton of future B1G and ND players in the game.

So far, Maurice Hurst has looked extremely quick, especially on his 3rd down -10 yard sack against future Northwestern QB, Matt Alviti.

Hurst looks quick and strong, dominating his lineman.  Exactly what we hope to see at Michigan

Douglass looks a little small, but is starting and has made a few plays

Former Michigan target Devon Allen just dropped a ball in the endzone on very good coverage by Ross Douglas.....

...... and it was called a touchdown....

100% not a catch

this game looks about 100x's much more organized than the UA game did...amazing when you get HS coaches to actually coach instead of former NFL guys their for TV and the espn presentation.

Also have zero doubt the Army game will look light years better than the UA game.

Hear Lemming mention that Tosh Lupoi (who is a coach at Washington) was talking to him about Elijah Qualls possibly being a RB as well. Isn't it a violation fir a coach to talk about a specific player when talking to the media?

My cousin is the kicker for the east team, already has a 41yard FG and extra point.  He's good and its going to kill me to see him kicking for MSU.  He grew up a die-hard UofM fan, but no scholly offer.....booo

Michael Geiger, he was committed to BC, until MSU offered in early December.  He's from Toledo, so family can make it to a lot more games....hopefully when he's kicking for MSU it never comes down to him kicking the winning field goal.

When you think about it, Gibbons is coming back right? Wile has 2 more years, we can't have 3 schollies taken by kickers in this 85 max era, they need to increase the max to 90.

Too bad Wile hasn't really had a chance to be an all time kicker at U-M, that guy can kick FG's well, he's unlucky that Hoke was able to handle Gibbons better than RR, He has earned his way to an NFL chance IMO with last 2 years, remember how he kicked in 2010, what a difference.

That right there is just one example of why I'm so confident about our staff and future

Your family really should not blame UM or Hoke for this one.  At no point has the team considered taking a kicker, and even if they had, they're not going to take your cousin just because he's a Michigan fan.  As a Michigan fan, I'd be furious if they did that.

If it really means all that much to him, why doesn't he walk on at Michigan?    I understand a full-ride is tough to pass up.

Malik Zaire, ND QB recruit, looks meh so far.  He fumbles but it's negated by a penalty.  Sacked twice on other plays.  Athletic, good speed and has escapeability, but hasn't looked great throwing

So that makes zero quarterbacks I've seen look good in these HS games tonight

The only QBs I've ever seen look good in any of these games I've ever watched are dual threats that just take off for big gains. Barkley looked pretty good in his game. Otherwise whichever QB looks good usually has some big bomb that a WR makes a play on; high variance type stuff. Can't say I've seen one drive the entire field. But small sample and all; a team only practicing for three days with kids they've played with before against defenders that can actually defend?

According to the "experts" at ESPN, the UA game breaks down like this: defense see ball, get ball offense learn a new offensive scheme in 4 days. Offenses are at a big disadvantage in the game
