Semi OT - Wisconsin Jr F Sam Dekker Entering Draft
Kind of expected. Still a blow to Wisconsin who should take a step backwards next year. Good luck to the kid!
This is also my feeling. He's a beast, he'll play in the NBA a long time if he stays healthy.

Dekker
Jackson
Kaminski
Gasser
Anyone else? Hayes? That's basically the entire starting lineup.

Hayes is staying as a sophomore and Konig is back. That's a solid 1-2. Though I wonder if Hayes will struggle as he becomes more of the focus of the offense/opposing defenses. They also lose Dukan. So the only other returners that saw any minutes are Showalter and Brown who averaged 7 and 6 minutes a game respectively.
They will be relying on a lot of youth next year. Will be interesting to see just how far back they fall. Could see them as 5th or worse in the league pretty easily.

They are also losing Duje Dukan. While not a starter, I thought he was a solid bench player and he has a great name.
and he is 6-10.

Are you sure you're talking about the right guy? Dekker shot .639 from two and .331 from three last year (.348 from three for his career at UW).
translate that well to the NBA. But I am sure he's already working on that.

No reason for him not to go, he will be a top 5 pick.
ok not great the last couple years, 3-4 3 stars and a couple 4 stars, they should be regular top 5 of big ten wisconson
UM, MSU, Indiana, Maryland, Purdue (not necessarily in that order) at least.
Come back Caris
Dekker taking his talents to the second round!
Experts are now saying he could be lottery pick after this tournament. No different than how Mitch's stock soared after 2013 tournament.

- 25 Parrish, CBS

I don't vouch for any of these individually, but there seems to be a consensus here.
It's not just the tournament; he's been moving up these lists since last summer. I'm surprised there was anyone that thought he might come back.
Except against Duke, Dekker got to the rim with ease. You can't discount that as a lucky "hot streak".
Of course, he shot some dagger threes except against Duke. I don't think an NBA scount would count on that as more than a "hot streak".
I mean, that's eight of nine mocks that have him going in the top 18. Some have him ahead of Kaminsky.
Of course he's coming out. He was already easily first round before the tournament; now he's moved up another 5-10 slots.

To answer your question, I just noted that one of the CBS guys hasn't updated his mock since the end of January (and of course that's the one that has Dekker the lowest). Of the others, 7 are current and one was done after the regionals but before last weekend.
Good. Fuck that guy and Wisconsin.

He will be the Derrick Williams of this year's draft.
i live in Madison. I've endured the Bo Ryan era from its infancy and have actually grown to admire his resiliency. I've openly argued with Badger fans on numerous occasions in the past decade that "the Badgers will be down next year", only to see the likes of Mike Wilkinson and Frank Kaminsky elevate their game to All-B1G status. Hate the man for his sometimes sluggish offense and borderline harrassment defensive tactics, but do not doubt his ability to develop players and keep the Badgers among the top tier of B1G basketball squads. Losing Dekker will hurt, but Bo Ryan will still put a competitive squad on the hardwood next year.
Anything that causes trouble for Wisconsin is something to be celebrated! This is a good day!
Good fucking riddance.
I have not followed Wisconsin hoops recruiting all that closely so I don't know precisely where this would leave them, but add Dekker to the losses and that's going to be a very, very differnt team next year, I think. I am sort of intrigued actually, although I have this suspicion that Bo Ryan magic is a weird magic and they still might be confounding to a point.
...have they ever had a player faced with the choice before?
Here's a list of their first-rounders since 1990:
- Michael Finley, 1995, Sr., 21st
- Paul Grant, 1997, Sr., 20th
- Devin Harris, 2004, Jr., 5th
- Alando Tucker, 2009, Sr., 29th
Dekker's borderline lottery; they've only had one junior rank as high, ever, and he came out. Kaminsky last year was "25 to 45".
What they don't ever have happen, except for Rashard Griffith, is for someone to come out before he's ready. Nobody comes out and goes undrafted, as is about to happen at Kentucky. But you can't expect a lottery pick to stay in school.
but if he does go all of those players will get drafted. The only ? is Dakari Johnson.
7 footers with any athleticism have a remarkable propensity to stick in the NBA for a good stretch.
- Towns lottery (unanimous)
- Cauley-Stein lottery (unanimous)
- Lyles lottery (5), 1st round (4)
- Booker lottery (2), 1st round (7)
- Johnson 1st round (5), 2nd round (3), undrafted (1)
- Andrew Harrison 1st round (2), 2nd round (5), undrafted (2)
- Aaron Harrison 2nd round (6), undrafted (3)
I think that's probably about right. Johnson's size will get him drafted somewhere, it's the Harrison twins that are the question. You can count me among the people that don't think anyone's going to use a pick on Aaron.
