Semi OT- Sports Bucketlist

Submitted by swan flu on

Most of us here have most likely had a chance to watch The Game in person at least once. Aside from the watching the greatest rivalry in sports in person, what event(s) is/are on your sports bucket list? What event would you want to witness in person before you die?

As I'm a big soccer fan, my list would be fairly soccer-centric.

1) El Classico at El Camp Nou. If you couldn't tell, I'm a huge Barca fan and to watch an El Classico in person would be a surreal experience.

2) A World Cup finale. Don't care who's in it. It is simply the greatest stage in soccer. If the US happened to be in it, that would be icing on the cake.

3) A Boca Juniors game at La Bombonara. Possibly the most passionate fans anywhere... A buddy of mine saw a game there and said it was the best sporting event he's ever been to.

It's a slow Friday and I don't have to work today. What's on your sports bucket list?

1. Watch The Game in person
2. Watch a EPL game (with my Spurs, of course, and preferably against Arsenal)

Not much else that I haven't already done, to be honest. I'm not a big enough fan of other sports for them to make the list, and I've already gone to a few Michigan games (including the ND game, which crossed a bunch off of that list).

Edit: I almost forgot, BEAT OHIO!

on CBS. Except I'd wanna be there on a Sunday and not watching on CBS. I just can't say "The Masters" anymore without my brain compusively adding "on CBS".

I'm doing it this year. Finishing law school the week before and heading down to get a good party weekend in before bar prep.

To see a win tomorrow, for the first time in person is #1. Hasn't happened since I started undergrad...

but two top choices would be to experience a Game 7 of the World Series or the NHL. Ultimate level of live sports intensity. A gold medal event in the Olympics would also be up there.

Most NFL fans should try to go to a game at Lambeau at least once. My moms side of the family has two sets of season tickets, so I'm spoiled in the sense that I've been getting to go to 1-3 Packer games a year for free since I was six. The atmosphere in GB is unlike anything else in the league.

Alot of great ideas on here already, but being raised up on basketball, the Final Four has always been a defacto national holiday for me. Maybe I fulfill that wish in 2013? (Mitch McGary!)

I have always wanted to see Michigan play in every big ten stadium plus in South Bend. I think that place down south will have to be last though.

Also to attend The Game, which I was lucky enough to get tickets to.

 • Wimbledon
 • The Masters
 • A Premier League/ La Liga game
 • The Tigers in the World Series (I finally got to see a playoff game this year. They lost, but it was cool nonetheless)
 • Summer Olympics

I know you didn't list it, but I went to the LSU at Florida night game in 'The Swamp' a few years back when they were both having great years. It was the year Florida won big. That stadium is as loud as it's hyped up to be. We were close to the field and on big third downs, I was trying to get the attention of my Aunt next to me and I was yelling her name and she had no idea I was even trying to talk to her. I remember an ESPN article of a Tennessee lineman saying that when they're on offense, he can feel his facemask shaking from the noise. Truly an electric environment.

1. Olympics - summer and winter - particularly the marathon in the summer and gold metal ice hockey in the winter (with the USA in the game too).

2. National Championship hockey with Michigan in it

3. National championship football with Michigan in it

4. Stanley cup clinching win for the Red Wings.

I have been fortunate to cross off a lot from my sports bucket list. I've seen Michigan beat Ohio in the Big House (2003) and track and field, swimming, basketball, and gymnastics events at the '96 games in Atlanta. Two things that I would love to see despite not being huge fans of either sport:

1. World Cup soccer match, preferably the final
2. Monaco Grand Prix

Being able to take in the environment surrounding these events would be as exciting as the event itself.

when I was sportswriter in Jackson back in the late 80s a grizzled old veteran reporter asked each of us what were the top four events we would want to witness live and the list was easy.

1. The Masters

2. Witness the The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain

3. Michigan Football Rose Bowl Game (Now BCS NC game)

4. A Super Bowl with the Lions playing

After yesterday, I am more convinced than ever that No. 4 will never happen in my lifetime. I believe the curse is alive and well for the Honalulu Blue.

I believe No. 3 is the most likely for me and 1 and 2 are dreams that would only come true if I put every ounce of effort and a singular focus into making it happen.

Attending a Michigan game at the following venues:

1. Wisconsin

2. ND

3. Alabama

4. LSU

5. Oklahoma

I am leaving Ohio of the list b/c I heard nothing but horror stories about the "people" at Ohio and I have read Brian experience. I'll pass on that.

I went last year, and honestly it wasn't that bad. Granted, it could have been worse if the game was even remotely close, but I've had much worse experiences elsewhere. The one that stands out for me is wearingy Yankee gear at Philadelphia during the 2009 world series. I've been to Fenway numerous times clad in Yankee gear, but nothing compares to those three games at citizen's bank park. Philly fans are the scum of the earth. Wearing my Yomiuri Giants gear for a game against Hanshin at Koshien is a close second, though I never felt physically threatened there...

Trying to keep it reasonable and not too specific (so that I can acutally complete it):

Attend a Barca game at The Nou Camp (done)

Michigan over OSU (please!)

M Hoops in the final four (did the road trip in '09 and a final four appearance probably won't beat a college road trip, so I'm counting it)

See one of my hometown teams clinch a pro championship

The World Cup (Planning to go to Brazil)

Attend an EPL game

Attend both Olympics

Interesting that nobody has mentioned the Kentucky Derby. Box seats to the race with megangoblue in a dress and fancy hat would be the best non-football/hockey experience I could imagine.

A few that I've accomplished:

NCAA National Title hockey game (BC/Wiscy at Ford Field)

Big Chill in the Big House

The Game at the Big House (still haven't seen a W live, though)

Red Wings playoff game

Wrigley Field

Realistic ones I haven't:

Super Bowl (preferably Lions)

UM Rose Bowl/Title Game

UM Hockey Title game

UM Final Four

Duke/UNC at Cameron Indoor

A couple crazy ones:

A game of bandy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandy)

The game with the dead goat they play in Afghanistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzkashi)
