Semi-OT- Scott Pagano picks Clemson

Submitted by drewro02 on

Obviously we didn't have room for him at this point, but he did have an offer and mentioned interest at one point. Also, Clemson is putting a nice defensive class together, especially if they end up with Fuller. I guess Dabo is realizing he must play defense after the bowl loss to WVU.

Their class isn't that great - in fact it's probably short of where their classes normally are. They got Nkemdiche and now Pagano, but their bottom half is pretty low too. Partly because they needed to take half of Nkemdiche's football team to get him.

...and although I can't stand the University, I can admit the campus is wonderful. It's the perfect campus for recruits who are looking for an extremely close-knit community. The fanbase can be annoying to non-fans but they make their players feel loved and welcomed. I can understand why recruits are interested in going there despite their embarrassing tradition of choking each year.

Aquaman, we know you're lurking ... do you want to come out and say what you believe is going on there, or do we have to buy you a few drinks first?

I just don't really get how Clemson is recruiting so well. Their undergrad academics are sub-par, tradition is pretty meh. Yeah, their class isn't that great as of now, but they're now in the final group for Derrick Green, Treadwell, Marquez North, Montravius Adams, Kendall Fuller and Vernon Hargreaves among others. Hargreaves is another one who has said next to nothing about Clemson during his recruitment, then names them in his final group, shutting out South Florida where his dad is one of the freaking coaches.

Also, regarding Pagano: I talked to Scott a lot throughout this process and he never mentioned Clemson once the entire time. Even after things seemed to fall through with Michigan it was almost 100% a Florida/LSU battle with Florida looking like the team to beat. Even then Clemson was never brought up. I was surprised they were even in his final group to be honest.

Maybe Dabo is just that good of a recruiter, but between the pandering to Nkemdiche and the fact that they continually come out of nowhere with a lot of big names just strikes me as funny.
