Semi-OT: OSU Commit Throws Down the "O" Gauntlet

Submitted by boliver46 on

Buckeye commit Tyler Green was in Ann Arbor yesterday with some teammates for the UM Football camp.

He decided it would be good to wear all OSU gear and throw up the "O" on the field.

Love the guts to do this, but also can't wait for Canteen to blow right by him for a TD!!

Some of the comments are funny too:

Based on what is on Rivals I am surprised OSU made him an offer. 3 star rating, mid level Rival ranking and he isn't nationally ranked. For the position he actually is on the small side. His stats are nothing special. I didn't see anything spectacular in his film.

You're right, gotta respect the guts. But it sounds like it'll be the only time Michigan fans hear his name.

Except, of course, when Canteen blows past him, as you mentioned.

Yeah, 3 star DBs never produce in college and certainly never end their careers at OSU by getting drafted in the first round...

Also, implying that the rankings mean the kid will never produce seems a bit counterintuitive, since Canteen was also a camp offer that 247 ranked lower than this kid, but what do I know?

did you bother to read the article yourself, or just come on here to troll?

The comment I blockquoted was from an OSU fan..who questioned the recruitment of this kid...

You may be RationalBuckeye, but not everyone in your fanbase is.

JMFR was a 3-star - he turned out ok...Kovacs was a walk-on - he wasn't terrible. /s

so I certainly know the value of lower-ranked guys.

I wasn't responding to the article, I was responding the "sounds like this is the last time we'll hear his name".

I get that the op quoted an OSU fan, and I certainly acknowledge the vast number of morons in every fan base, but my point was in response to the comment that since he's a lower rated player, he gets written off veritably when he still has. Year before he even gets into camp.

Haha fair enough, I'm typing hastily from my phone at work.

And to anyone questioning my username, it was a response to the 11w poster "rationalmfan" from a few years ago that brought a constructive point of view to an opposing board.

I'm sure we'll hear his name again, likely in this fashion, "Tyler Green was dismissed from the Ohio State football team this week after receiving a B- in Typing 101.  In other news, Ohio State has just received the commitment of D'Jasper Probincrux IV, a 5* CB from Georgia who is currently retaking the ACT in hopes of qualifying acacdemically."

ha unfortunately thats possible and meyers def one of those dirtbags who operates like that - but its also why he wins, hell do whatever it takes to put the best team on the field.   however i certainly hope that scenario does not play out with this particular kid green bc hes got some stones to roll like that at um - id never root for someone to fail or get screwed over by guys like meyer so hopefully hes a solid player (all but 1 week per year, just not good enough to beat um)

Then again, "RationalBuckeye" may be anything but rational.  But it is interesting that a Buckeye fan would have to refer to himself as "raional," as if he were admiting that most Buckeye fans are not.

As for the kid, the move was classless, but what would one expect from a Buckeye?

well, its all relatvie.  Personally, I don't think it was classless.  It was brash and cocky.  Falls in line with the rivalry.  But if he, or any other buckeye fan, would not expect some sort of retort, verbal, written or otherwise, is silly.

just a kid being a kid. I see nothing wrong with it. As far as rationalbuckeye's exasperation goes..... I think it should be expected that Michigan fans would have some negative reactions, with some of the reactions based on emotion more so than facts, when they are discussing the action amongst fellow fans. I seriously doubt that rationalbuckeye would be all that offended to such a comment from an OSU fan if the situation had been reversed. ironically, I find the tone of rationalbuckeye's comments to this board to be generally pretty irrational as he seems to forget where he is at.

yesterday (dont recall where) while I was looking for Browns news (born in Ferndale, raised in Cleveland) and most of the OSU fans I saw talking about it seemed to think this kid was in for a visit and showed up in OSU garb. Their response was predictable, and they weren't happy when I informed them the kid was in AA for SMSB and not a campus visit.  Of course, it took a while for me to explain it to them, but still...

This immediately made me think of Spongebob and this:

Reminds me of the time I had to explain this image to an OSU fan:

try that one out with your OSU fans and see how that goes.

Wasn't trying to incite anything? If that was the case, he wouldn't have done it at all.

I don't get riled up for stuff like this (in fact, this is the type of 'clean' rivalry antics that I enjoy most), but to say he didn't do it to get a rise out of people (Michigan or OSU) is simply naive.

I think it's naive to think he wasn't trying to incite something...but that's a part of being in this rivalry.  It goes both ways and there's no harm in it.  I'm sure he is expecting a little backlash from Michigan fans and a bunch of them will certainly oblige.  Michigan recruits have done their fair share of inciting the fans too.  Instant acceptance by your future  fanbase before ever making a play on the field...not a bad move.

Have more in common than just love of all things UM. I definitely laughed when reading this because my wife rolls her eyes at me too. Sandals year round baby! And if it's cold out, socks and sandals!!

This is unsubstantiated, but June and Howard were at the camp:

June also tweeted this himself:
