Semi-OT: Fox Sports Writer Calls Urban Meyer Out For His Hypocrisy
This Foxsports writer blasts Urban Meyer for his hypocritical book about instilling a culture of discipline. Calls O'Reilly out for letting Urban off the hook by implying that he would have kicked Jameis Winston off the team....even though Urban once let a player get away with murder.
Urban Meyer criticizes FSU's handling of Jameis Winston. sets impressive new bullshit record on Fox News: https://t.co/wxq5eJz04R

Even if he is awful, he's still on the money in this instance.

Just a small correction...
We don't have to use "THE" to feel better about ourselves. Only OSU does that.

more or less the O'Reilly interview which during the highlighted segment enables Meyer to get away with a throwaway statement about Winston's behavior for discipline and the fact that he would have punished it. saying it would be hard to let go, and no followup from O'Reilly regarding his actual "issues" at both Florida and Ohio State that he subsequently acknowledges.
The article can skewer Meyer all it wants, but Meyer himself sought to massage the record being portrayed without going deeper into by it by O'Reilly who was simply using Meyer's public personality as a boost for his show while the OSU coach wanted to promote his new book on the Buckeye's championship team of a year ago. So, the issues that never get discssed become the focal point of the Travis piece that O'Reilly never covers because he isn't in attack mode, and we learn nothing more as a result. The failure here is on the interviewer's part, not the subject.
Whether Meyer is a hypocrit or not, he clearly doesn't want to be grilled about his past player issues at Florida involving Hernandez, but he does try to cover the bases by suggesting that no team has a "Camelot" program of socially and culturally well-behaved guys. Here's my response to that remarkable candor, No shit.

Just a suggestion: when you are quoting something for ironic purposes that might be considered...impolite by the moderators if you really mean it, consider quotation marks. It will help us old, unhip guys understand what you're saying.

"Come the fuck on." Really surprised they let their writers publish stuff like that on Fox. I mean, I swear plenty, and it's great to see some unique writing on this here blog, but I don't recall seeing a writer here swear except in a podcast. You'd think an outlet like Fox Sports would want to be a little more professional than that.

...any credible suggestion that Meyers "covered up a murder", on Google or anywhere else. There's a big difference between that and just having a possible murderer among numerous other aspiring felons on your football team.

The above article interviews an NFL scout that spoke to people at the University of Florida. That's just the first article I searched because I had a few spare minutes here at work. It was evident that Hernanzdez was a piece of shit at Florida yet Urban Meyer let him run amuck anyway
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/06/arrests-were-rampant-in…
The above article discusses 31 arrests during his tenure at Florida. Dude ran the dictionary definition of a renegade program.

And I'm familiar with that story. All I am saying is that there is a big difference between Meyer having let a gangster dipshit run amock, and Meyer having let a player "get away with murder" as suggested by the OP.

"A witness to the shooting does not identify Hernandez by name, but the witness said the shooter was a “‘Hawaiian’ or ‘Hispanic’ male who had a large muscular build, stood about 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4, weighed about 230 or 240 pounds and had a lot of tattoos.”
Here’s the relevant portion of the police report: “As they were waiting for the light to change, the Hawaiian football player and Reggie Nelson walked up to their car on the right side. Then without saying a work [sic], the Hawaiian pointed a small handgun in the front right window and fired five quick shots. [Randall] Cason saw [Corey] Smith slump over with blood coming out of the back of the head, at which time the Hawaiian and Nelson took off running towards McDonald’s.”
Cason later explained to police that, earlier in
the week, his brother had gotten into an
altercation with several Florida football players. Hernandez, Nelson, and Mike and Maurkice Pouncey had been in a Gainesville nightclub on the night of the shooting — even though Hernandez was still only 17 at the time.
According to the police report, Hernandez declined to talk to investigators, invoking his right to have counsel present.

I fully expect Meyer to be at Notre Dame within the next few years once Kelly gets a NFL job.
October 27th, 2015 at 8:23 AM ^
Not a chance, Meyer has it made at Ohio State. Never mind that he actually has a degree from OSU and he and his wife are actually from Ohio. There is absolutely no reason to expect Urban to leave Ohio State for another job. Thinking so is as naive as thinking Harbaugh will be back in the NFL next season.
