Semi-OT: Coach Uzelac has Benton Harbor at 2-1

Submitted by All Day on

Sorry if this is too OT for the fall, but it seems like a slow Friday and there's not drinking thread. This is also a follow up to a popular post from last month.

Former Michigan assistant coach Elliot Uzelac came out of retirement last month to coach at Benton Harbor, a team who had 4 total wins over the last 8 years. With a win over Niles tonight, the Tigers moved to 2-1. They also beat Battle Creek Central last week. It's good to see these kids finally taste some success.

This is great for those young men. Ive coached against and been in the box against BH the last 6 years. Those boys play hard and have good athletes, they just were always sooooooo poorly coached. They stay in close games only to blow it and lose focus at critical moments. Glad to see that they are tasting some success, those kids deserve it.

Sadly I'm from Niles and they have been on a downward spiral for awhile and this season seems to be the rock bottom, hopefully. The coach they have is a really good coach but after years of incompetent and babying of the football program he's unable to do much. The players are extremely weak minded from the culture that Niles had built before he was hired as the coach. Over the last 3 years they've only had enough players for 2 teams as a Class A team that is unacceptable. As for Benton Harbor, Uzelac has done a tremendous job in Benton Harbor and has provided that program and their players with discipline that they haven't had in the past and the players have truly bought into him and are willing to work their butts off for the man. Hopefully they can continue this already great season and make the playoffs.
