Semi-OT: Brian explains the origins of MGoBlog
Brian gave an ignite talk on Thursday, and had this to say about how he's succeeded:
It takes INSANE ZEALOTRY: a little from him and a lot from people that love football so much they'll read the UFRs. Highlight of my Wednesdays, I know!
(Also: this event caused too much overlap in the venn diagram of my life: head nearly asploded!)
Nice shirt
his inner Eddie Vedder.
Congrats to Brian, I don't know if this is the most popular blog (I thought EDSBS had that crown), but he's built a fantastic product here. This is the best blog out there.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!
if you look at the sitemeter stats, he's been atop edsbs for some time now. i was a bit surprised when i found out as well...
but... of course, Michigan comes out on top.
Wow, you're right. I thought it may be due to the platform switch, but Brian's weekly number blows Orson's out of the water.
I venture it's due to the quality of the MGoBoard/Diary sections. It's why I visit many times per day--I can only read the previews so many times.
I hope he's living the high life on our page views right now...
as a regular contributor, i receive steak dinners, free booze and inappropriate solicitations from supermodels daily
So MGoPoints are redeemable? I'd love a free weekend in Vegas.
You didn't hear it from me, but I hear that Megan Fox sleeps with you if you have 3000 MGoPoints. I'm saving up.
Two (or THREE) Megan Foxes at one time!?
*prices & participation may vary, not available in any of the states or Canadian provinces. Limited time only and only while supplies last. mgoblog is not responsible for ugly.
Or pay extra points for an upgrade, with less diseases?
You can trade them in for an unforgettable evening with Phyllis Diller.
Can I get me some Joan Rivers?
But her schedule is pretty full-up with em0 and McFarlin for the next few weeks.
As long as you're under the age of 30. Trust me, I know... 3000 came and went for me and she never showed. I had to listen to Barry White and drink the Dom Perignon all by myself.
I don't think it was the age, buddy...
You HAVE to read the fine print.
I'd hit it
Big Ten: 1
SEC: 0
I buy you out."
...candidate to replace "Ok. Inaccurate, but ok."
Any chance there's a video of this presentation?
I think it was linked specifically below. The event was run by Ignite Ann Arbor. Warning! Everything else there is unrelated :). Mostly interesting, but unrelated.
that threads about the blog's creator and the blog itself are not OT...But hey, I could be wrong.
It's a Meta. Woooo!
THAT'S AT BLAU AT ROSS!! Man, I'm upset I missed this. I hope they recorded it somewhere. You're right, it is almost causing too much overlap in my life.

He is the first speaker in part two.
Enjoy.
Insane zealotry, that's me! Just without the writing or web design capabiliies.
This is such a great site and a lot of informative material here. I check it out every 30 mins or so at work and it is just a matter of time before it is out on the banned sites list there because I am on it too much...lol.
Thanks for all the hard work everyoneputs in on this site!!
As soon as NSD comes and goes I try, desparately, to limit my mgotime at work. If I miss a day, I'll check it just make sure I can still get access. It will be a dark August if the site gets banned at my work!
there were other college football blogs. this is the only one that matters.
Wow, I was thinking everyone read the UFR's... I guess I'm in the minority. There's a lot of great information in there, and it has taught me a lot about the schemes. I think they're great reads. Sometimes tough to read after a rough loss, but great info none-the-less.
Brian, you have enriched my life. As a huge M fan living in Milwaukee, info is often hard to come by. Now i feel just as up-to-date as if i was in AA year round. This is an awesome blog on so many levels and i appreciate it greatly.
Brian has it. From humble Haloscan beginnings to what this blog is now--but two constants are fantastic writing that is intelligent without trying to sound like Alan Greenspan, and a fan and alumni base that is spread out all over the world.
Another factor in the success is the very angst-ridden nature of UM's shaken fan base right now combined with a large amount of paranoia.
I'd also submit the change to Rich Rodriguez has been an incredible boon as well. The shift away from what many have deemed as an increasingly stale forty-year run of near nepotism (underscored by the passing of Bo) to what many now hope is the re-awakening of a "napping" giant, fully ready to join the 21st century has to have had a major effect on this blog's status.
I think there were countless UM fans who had lost some, if not large amounts, of this "zealotry" and Timothy O'Leary'd UM football because they knew exactly what to expect year in and out.
Bingo. It's all about the data data data. The tape does not lie.
The newspaper era of long winded columns of stupidity about asinine crap is over.
The newspaper era of long winded columns of stupidity about asinine crap written by amazingly lazy, willfully ignorant, sloppy dolts who are more interested in what's for lunch than what are the facts is over.
Was Brian just being modest/humorous? Seriously, doesn't everyone read every word and even more importanly watch every embedded replay every week?
I love the UFRs. Is there something wrong with me? (Never ask a question you don't want the answer to...)
