Semi-OT - Big House Blog does not like your jersey
Why is MGoBlog the greatest? Well, for a number of reasons. But among those is that MGoBlog does not pretend to be the Fashion Police, and moreover, is not run by morons!
The jackhole over at Big House Blog made a post today on "what to wear" to Michigan games. Among the gems of this fashionista's wisdom are things like, 'don't wear a jersey if you're a grown man', and 'no more than two pieces of logo wear'. I can get behind not wearing cheap knockoffs, but what sort of mentally incompetent do you have to be to think it's wrong for anyone to wear a jersey to a FOOTBALL game?

I'm all for not wearing a jersey to the game because wearing yellow is the way to go.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
I don't know about you but I prefer to wear maize instead of yellow!
I stand corrected. I was posting while on a conference call at work and thus not thinking clearly... I will neg myself for that one.
FWIW, the Alma Mater is technically "The Yellow and Blue."
Maize and yellow are the same thing.

for wearing maize shirts. The student section looks awesome for home games and it would be great if the whole stadium looked like that (save the opposing fans).
As far as jerseys, I choose not to wear one, but think it's ridiculous to chide someone for being too old to wear one. This kind of intolerance begets further intolerance. First it's jerseys, then it's maize shirts, followed eventually by "Down in front!!"
As long as you're cheering your ass off and making plenty of noise (but not being a negative douche), wear whatever you want.

I believe this adequately describes that post. And that person's MGoFandom.

In many schools of the south (e.g. Georgia) They were slacks and polos/dress shirts. True story.
I'm with you, though 100%.
My question to you good sir is... are Jean shorts acceptable?
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
if you have a nice butt.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
I think I do... I legimately own like 2 pairs of Jorts and my girlfriend claims she threw them away. She hates jorts and says... Gators wear jean shorts. Which reminds me of this video:
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
...only if they are acid washed.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
Only if the game happens to be played in Canada
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:36 PM ^
Only if they are cut-offs and you are a Buckeye fan.
If they have wings
like a maxi-pad.
you worry me.
a sodden pair of jean shorts can be quite discomforting on bleacher seats

In many schools of the south (e.g. Georgia) They were slacks and polos/dress shirts.
Please. Polos are so underdressed. Ties.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:47 PM ^
Oh so true. Don't forget blazers when it gets a little cooler out.
I've always favored a tuxedo on brisk Fall afternoons.
that has to be the suite attendats uniform
If that's true, then I want to be a suite attendant!
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
That's not a very well thought-out or written article. I still don't like students wearing the blue jerseys in the student section, though.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:43 PM ^
wearing non-maize shirts in the student section is annoying. how hard is it, people?
True, but If it's not a maize-out I don't see what's wrong with the rest of us wearing Jerseys, Grown men or not, its a FOOTBALL game, If you have a football jersey feel free to wear it.
I didn't buy those authentic #5 jerseys before last year just to leave them at home on game day. I match the team every week, jersey-wise.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
Bob is on vacation- this "jackhole" is a guest blogger who is making this argument.
Also, I am of the Scott Van Pelt opinion that grown men shouldn't wear jerseys of their favorite 18-22 year olds. There's plenty of leeway if that jersey is from when you were that age, but generally speaking I'm not sure 45 year olds need to be wearing Devin Gardner jerseys
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:36 PM ^
The thing about college football is that those jerseys typically don't (or shouldn't) have last names on it. So that Devin Gardner jersey you're referring to could be Chad Henne, Rick Leach or anyone else in history.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
I agree- I guess I was referring to the people who actually take the time to stitch on the names. Generic #7 jerseys are just fine
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
Even if you bought it because of a particular player, it's not "player wear". It's school wear. It's all to support UofM.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
Basically, you can't be a fan and wear the jersey to support players if they are younger than you? This is some funny shit here. I mean grown men probably shouldn't be watching muppets either but I'm down with it.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
It's FOOTBALL! Wear your jersey and be proud!
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
And believe me, I am no fan of cats. And yes, Brian is aware of this.
this cat?
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
my brown shoes didn't match my black belt.
Don't tell me MGoBlog isn't the fashion police.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
He told you about your shoes and your belt? That was a roundabout way of letting you know he was checking you out.
You could've scored.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
Most of the list is pretty ridiculous. However, I do believe men should stop wearing jerseys once they've reached a certain age(40 or so). This is not just to football games, but at all times.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
My 85 year old grandfather wore his jersey on Michigan Saturdays. You wanna tell him it was wrong? It was AWESOME is what it was.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
Just my opinion, that's all. It's not like I'm going to scream at someone for doing so.
I have a buckeye friend who also thinks grown men should never wear a jersey. I don't understand this. I wear my jersey when watching UM games, even if it's at a bar. Now I wouldn't be caught dead going out at night to a bar in a M jersey b/c I think that's lame.
But, as long as it's being worn while watching a UM sporting event, what's so bad about wearing a jersey?
Are you older than 40?
I saw an older guy, must have been in his 70's or 80's, at last year's WMU game rocking an old white jersey from the '87 Rose Bowl, complete with the huge shoulder patches. The first thing I thought was, "Damn, that's legit." I say let the older fellas wear the jerseys.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
in my jersey.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:40 PM ^
It looks like this is user submitted content that the usual guy is posting while on vacation.
Still, it's pretty ridiculous.
- Old School Michigan gear can be awesomely cool. What's with the hate?
- Grown men wearing jerseys to a game is much different than being that guy who wears them to Sunday Dinner or a funeral.
- I wear as much logo gear as possible. I'm pretty sure that this makes me increasingly awesome as each piece is added.
- What's with being in the pocket of Nike and Adidas? I'll wear my MgoShirts and Steve and Barry's hoodie with pride.

book it
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:43 PM ^
is nothing more than a compilation of other's hard work. The idiot, Bob he calls himself, takes news of the day and posts it. There is very little original content and even less analysis. I've been on that asswipe for the better half of a year. Today's post was ignorant as well. If you want to wear a jersey, wear a jersey. Are we so "over-analytical" that if someone wears a black shirt to a UM game, they are not a true fan?
Here's some advice for the MGOBLOG community, stay away from that shitty blog. That guy's an idiot.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:50 PM ^
Yes, much of what appears on there is just a rehash of stuff found here and elsewhere, but I do find that he does good research to find info on preferred walk-ons
You do know he reads this here blog and that the last few posts on his website have been from viewers who emailed content for him to post while he is on vacation. I just think maybe you should hold off on the name calling. He is a fellow wolverine fan afterall. It's not like he writes anything condescending and bad mouths the program.
Yeah, I'm not really sure why people are calling the guy an idiot. I guess it will happen when the OP does a Drew Sharp imitation.....
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
I'm pro choice. If you want to wear your UM jersey... go ahead. But I chose not to.
Either way, I love seeing the ladies in jerseys.
March 22nd, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
I don't care what anyone else wears. As long as it isn't green and white or scarlet and grey. Go to the game and cheer, for cryin out loud.
As for myself, just reaching the half-century mark, I don't see myself wearing a jersey any time soon. I like the adidas maize t-shirt, and my navy champion sweatshirt. Had a great v-neck off-white rosebowl sweater I loved until it got stained with mustard. Want to find a nice navy pull over thing like a windbreaker, with a zipper at the neck.
As far as fashion police go, the one thing I can't stand are plaid maize and blue pants, especially with really big checks. I'm not wealthy, but these seem to be the choice of some in the golf and money set. This is something I'll never understand.
Oh, and I never liked those acrylic blue tams with a gold pom, iirc. Didn't like em when I was a student, don't like em now.
