UMGoblog just tweeted it.
Home to HaHa and Dee, this reeks of Saban pulling something out of his bag of many tricks. Hopefully Dee is solidly blue and doesn't give in to Satan. I mean Saban.
Wow, that's a great idea on their part. For our pursuit of Dee and HaHa and other 2011/2012 targets? Not so much.
lol @ HaHa
Slimy or smart? Too bad Tebow was not in this recruiting class, maybe we could have camped at his high school in Jacksonville for the week.
When Homer sold his soul to Nick Saban for a donut? That was a good one.
They can't watch the team practice unless it is open to the public. Now will they actually abide by that?
Don't worry guys, Dec 20 to Jan 3 is a recruiting dead period. So Bama coaches won't be talking to players of interest.
Players are allowed to initiate contact though, if I recall.
So if Dee and HaHa stroll out to the field and start the conversation, it's Saban time.
And there's nothing to stop Saban from "reminding" his players (when recruits are in earshot) about all the great things they enjoy at Bama ("Julio! You've got to catch that football. Remember, at Alabama you get to use the largest practice facility in the SEC...").
The SEC is also notorious for following recruiting policies very strictly, there should be nothin to worry about.
Right, but this in some ways circumvents that as I'm sure Dee and HaHa will drop by during their winter break and check out Bama practicing on their home field.
you missed the sarcasm.
Still will have a smile on my face, when they pound Sparty however
Couldn't have said it better.
Actually a brilliant plan. I'd love it if our coaches did this. Do everything you can within the rules (and the rules of morality) to get the best recruits you can.
... on his part. The dude, for all his faults, is a genius of gaming the system.
I imagine seeing up close how Saban and staff treat players during practice could be an eye opener in comparison to the recruiting sales pitch.
They'll tone it down a notch given the location.
More than a little creepy!!!
Didn't neg you. But it's still to molesterish...
at DP to somehow get on the loudspeaker and play "The Victors" during their practice.
That would trump it!
I vote you to pose as a DP student, and do it. Or get Dee Hart to do it with HaHa and than have HaHa say over the speakers "Hey Coach Saban, it's HaHa, I just want to let you know, I'm committing to Michigan now. Have a good practice, and see you in 2012!"
Maybe we could have a friendly scrimmage with bama on that day.
I thought we wanted to get Dee.
I hope Saban gets chicken pox that week.
I hereby reduce all hopes of retaining Dee Hart to zero. If he makes it through that and still doesn't pledge to Bama I would be shocked. I can't honestly believe that is within the rules... whatever. Fuck us 1,000 more times than we've already been fucked. FML and all that jazz.
Will he watch the Alabma game on New Year's day, or watch the Gator Bowl. Wherever he shows at will say more than all of his oral commitments, switches ,announcments, comibined.
Best of luck to him either way.
damn clever...he will surely find a way to talk with Dee Hart especially if HaHa asks his buddy to come with him to watch the practice...let's just hope Dee doesn't sell his soul and that his heart is still with Michigan....
I really think its about time the NCAA or even an independent organization investigates these dubious practices....especially Saban. First medical scholarships...now practicing at a target recruits home field during the no contact period...this has got to stop!
Why didn't we think of that?
I'd say it's "Genius" but I guess "Genious" works for you.
Now they'll see exactly who they will be stuck behind on the depth chart if they commit to Bama.
Dee meet the NINE runningbacks ahead of you on the depth chart.
Bama will be practicing at Dr Phillips? How many days will they be there? Maybe RR will send someone to Bama's practice to catch Satan red handed committing a recruiting violation....
i hope UM is above that. we'll leave that to MSU (Miss St or the other one).
of Saban, the SEC, and recruiting violations.
Which, really, are all one in the same.
I want to be mad but I can't. This isn't oversigning ... it's just a really, really smart move.
wow...That is shady but extremely slick at the same time. How does this dude do this?? This doesn't make me feel good about Dee not changing his mind. The only thing that could work against Saban is these kids seeing what a raging psycho he is 1st hand during these practices and scaring them away. The allure of this big time program & Saban would be tough for any 18 year to ignore.
don't hate the player, hate the game
Where are we going to practice? Please tell me that it's somewhere home to other great FL prospects!
we should practice in the muck, chase rabbits and shit.
Note to Richard Rodriguez,
Jackson Prison recreation field has already been reserved.
believe this is legal. How is this legal? I don't understand.
Do the schools that all these colleges practice at get anything for the use of their facilities? I could easily see Saban offering to hold practices there for a little "assistance" in Dee's recruitment.
Does anyone know how many they will have there?
If you listen to one of NIck Saban's victory speeches backwards, you can hear stairway to heaven.
Something similar happened last year with Tennessee, but the Tenn. staff was not as clever. IIRC, they stayed at the same hotel that was hosting the Army AA players. They self reported secondary violations and nothing happened.
Every time I see Dr. Phillips I think of Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper makes me think about Mr. Pibb and how "dude didn't even get his degree."
Mitch Hedberg and Stephen Lynch did an awesome show at the Michigan Theater a few months before he died.
I was at that show I think. The one where he spilled his glass of vodka and said the stage was drunk?
Ultimate snake oil move....unfortunately, he is the master.
Alabama is not just practicing at the Dr. Phillips facilities, but they are actual paying a minimal fee ($50/hr) and upgrading the facilities (leveling the field, probably some other stuff) for "free".
IME, this changes things slightly. What was a shrewd and clever move just became shrewed-er and aggravating.
