Selection Sunday Thread

Submitted by Michiganfootball13 on

Today at 6pm is the Men's Selection Sunday event.  I thought I'd make a thread about it now because they have already started their bracketology session on ESPN.  This thread is to discuss what seed and where Michigan will be playing and to talk about all other teams in or on the bubble.

I believe that Michigan will be 4 seed out west or a 3 seed in Auburn Hills if the selection committee understands that we only have one bad loss.

here is what ESPN thinks as of today (I don't know what I think about this since they have Wisconsin trending down even though they just beat Michigan and Indiana back to back)... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

Here is what a writer on yahoo thinks the seeds with be... http://sports.yahoo.com/featured/ncaab/bigboard

What seed does everyone else think Michigan will end up as??

I expect a three seed (seems like most people have us as a three and Lunardi isn't anything special, mostly a PR-machine creation).  As a DC resident am hoping against hope that we will be in the East (in which case I am starting to feel the flu coming on this Thursday).  But mostly I just want to be in Auburn Hills.  This team seems to have a big home/away discrepency and if we aren't in SE Michigan, I am not confident we will escape the first weekend.

lunardi has KSU ahead of us despite us having a better RPI, more top 50 wins, less top 50 losses, and WE BEAT THEM BY 14 AT A NEUTRAL COURT

hopefully the committee is smarter than lunardi

With the exception of the guys that take pictures of kate Upton, Lunardi has the bset job in the world.  You only do it for 3 months, nobody pays attention to it unit the last month, and you don't even have to be right.

At 6:01 EST, he is basically done working for the year.

Lunardi is smoking rocks. Overall though, this might be the first year I can recall where the 1 seeds are less feared (I'm looking at you Gonzaga and Miami) than 3/4 seeds.

I think Michigan slides to a 4. I like the Bracketology bracket right now. #4 seed in the Gonzaga bracket.

Michigan has no reason to bitch about anything.

As much as I think it would help Michigan to be in Auburn Hills, if some of the brackets I've seen is accurate it would be awful to have to both Duke and Louisville as the 2 and the 1. If that were the case I would almost rather be out West as a 4 with possibly New Mexico and Gonzago as a 2 and a 1.

Of course if they don't pick up the effort and focus, it may not matter very much who the Sweet 16 and beyond matchups are. But I still have confidence in their talent and think they can put it together and make a run depending on the matchups.

I still feel like a 4 seed.  Maybe the last 3 seed if they penalize Florida, but that game was pretty late and it's not like UM played great to end the year either.  Regardless, this team at a #3 or a #4 will still need to play better defense to get out of the first weekend, as teams like Wichita State (per Palm in the second round) and Bucknell and ND/Ole Miss(per Lunardi at #4) are not going to just let UM run roughshod over them.  In fact, I'm really worried about Ole Miss or ND if they play them in the second round; both of those teams have played top opponents very well, and a scuttling UM isn't going to scare them.

I think it'd be cool to see the recruits have a tournament going.  Anyone know if Shane or Ferns is doing anything?  Either that or they should get involved in a bracket with the Michigan Football department or with the fans, it'd be cool to get a little competition going.

I'd have to imagine the guys who've already enrolled are not allowed to do anything like that and the other commits have probably been advised to stay away from that as well.  I don't know how much different the rules are in this area for student athletes vs athletic dept. employees, but one of my friends who works in the AD (not basketball) has been told the NCAA explicitly forbids them to so much as fill out a bracket.

Well there's really no point to filling out a bracket if you don't have money on the games anyways.  What other reason is there for you to root for random teams?  It's a shame the NCAA is so randomly harsh.  I'd hope the guys have some money riding, it makes it an actual competition.  Ferns could donate one of his T-Shirts to a fan who won and vice versa.

Would not surprise me if Michigan

A) Gets a 4 seed, everyone is excited and thinking Michigan has a real good shot to get to the Elite 8. And they lose in the first round.

B) They get in a tough bracket, everyone predicts doom and they put a few wins together.

I find that I do not hate Buckeye basketball so much. This weekend I realize that I prefer them to Wisconsin, MSU and Indiana other things being equal. My preference is not helping at the moment.

It's three hours away. Aren't we jumping the gun? We won't be a 1 or 2. The difference between 3-4 won't be that shocking. It will all boil down to location and bracket match-ups. As much as OSU is out arch-rival, Genie-boy has proven to have considerable influence during the selection process, and that influence will serve the conference well.

We are an annual NCAA tourney team now. Lets start acting like we belong and and should win versus being excited that we are "in the conversation" on selection Sunday.

The Bracket Project ranks the Bracketologists*, based on their long-term ability to predict teams and seeds in the final bracket. As of the 2012 rankings, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi was ranked 36th, two behind Jerry Palm of CBS and six ahead of Sports Illustrated’s Andy Glockner. http://bracketproject.50webs.com/rankings.html

Busting The Bracket (ranked 6th as of last year) puts a final bracket up at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.http://www.bustingthebracket.com/

Shawn Siegel of College Hoops Net (ranked 9th as of last year) used to be pretty accurate, but last night, in what might’ve been his first projection of the year, he spoiled his image by projecting UCONN as a 12 seed. http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/bracketology-saturday-night-ncaa-tournament-projection-170139

The brackets I've seen that have us at a 4 have either K.St or Wis at a 3.I think we should be seeded higher than either of those 2 (an OSU win would help)

Wonder whether any members of the Committee are contemplating this matchup for the round of 64. . . . Beilein vs. His Predecessor . . .  "Michigan of the West" vs. "Michigan of the East"?

I don't know if there's a decent "backstory game" every year because that's what you'll get when you randomly throw opponents together 30+ times, or if it's by design.  I guess whatever the selection committee says, I'll believe the opposite because I don't trust the NCAA.

I think we end up as a 3 seed in Auburn Hills.  Fingers crossed.

Can we please end the charade of end-of-half coach interviews?  Did anybody see that hard hitting analysis Tracy Wolfson gloriously failed to prod out of Bo Ryan?

These interviews give us no insight whatsoever and they are beyond uncomfortable for the viewer.

Tracy: "So...how do you...how do you adjust..."

Bo: "Stop them from making shots."

Tracy: "Ok."

1.A drunken Joe Namath tries to kiss Suzy Kolber                                                                    2.A crazed John L. Smith rants incoherently about a botched MSU fg attempt @ Ohio,'we got outcoached'                                                                                                                                  3.Lloyd Carr's "Why would you ask me that Todd?" And teams like them. Playing shit slow boring basketball should be banned. If you are constantly involved in games that are in the 20's at half you need not play anymore.

I still think we will be a 3, we'll likely end up in Auburn Hills.

But isn't it nice to not have to worry about bubble stuff for the second consecutive year? As a basketball fan who really came of watching age from the late 90s forward, I'm just appreciative that I'm not a total nervous wreck right now.
