Seating Preferences In Michigan Stadium

Submitted by NeilGoBlue on

I'm curious what seat location you would pick if money were not an issue.

Indoor Club?

Outdoor Club?

West Side Chairback?

Suites?

What Yard Line?

Low Row, Medium Row, Or High Row?

Visitor Side?

Home Side?

I'm just wondering what you view as the 'best' seat. (money not an issue)

Thanks!

Are always between row 40-60, prefer the sideline but I just get what a poor 25 year old non student can get. Money not an issue for you go with sec 1 row 40

I had the opportunity to sit in the West Side club seats last season for the UMass game and I have to say, I have never been so comfortable at a Michigan game.  If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

I would buy-out Section 1 (possibly 2 and 44).  All seats.

Then I would move the student section.

The Athletic Department would not have a problem with this because I just donated $1 billion to the school.

My seat would be in the middle of row 40.

Back when I was in school (codger alert!), the student section started at the 50 yard line on the home side of the field and worked its way north into the end zone.  Seniors had first dibs for the prime seats, then juniors and so on.  My seats were on the 40 yard line.  I generally found a senior that was not going to get tickets and use his or hers.

As a student, the only place to be was with friends in the student sections.  That one's a no-brainer.

Otherwise, my strong preference would be for the east sideline.  Basically, close to the portals, height-wise.

Reason One: you can hear the band.  It is absoulutely amazing what a difference that makes.  They are the rhythm section of the game.  And it is amazing, how dull the band sounds, in the southwest corner of the Stadium.  And how bright the band sounds, on the east sideline.  I've been in both.  It is a vast difference.

Reason Two:  You are in the sun in the late afternoon.  That's just me.  Maybe some people don't like the sun.  And for noon games, it really doesn't matter.  But in November, and for cool-weather 3:30 games, it's a nice thing.

Reason Three:  You get to see the Michigan coaches work from in front, instead of behind.  I asked Gary Moeller about that, and where he'd most like to sit in the Stadium.  He's used to just one sideline; the west.  (Coaching and old press box days.)  He said he thought he'd probably like the other sideline better, but it would take some getting used to.

Boxes and Club Seats:  I haven't been in them for a game.  I've been in both to see the view.  I don't think I'd like the boxes all that much, although it is an unreal level of luxury.  The boxes feel too distant, and too high for my taste.  The Club Seats are better.  But if somebody has a Michigan Stadium box, they sure don't need my advice.

I love being in the endzone (I'm in row 1 in 37 now). You can see the entire game and I feel like part of the action. The overtime games are an even more amazing experience such as Illinois 10

Student section is obviously amazing. Near the band is definitely a plus.

But overall, there are no real bad seats in the Big House.

ALTHOUGH, there was one game about five years ago that I went to with my Dad, and we were in the end zone about twenty or thirty rows up. As we were walking down the stairs, we were thinking "oh these are gonna be great seats" but as we sat down, we realized that the bar of the field goal post was covering about 80% of the field. So unfortunate...

I have had section 1 seats for a while and have moved around.  Last year row 20, just above the tunnel,  the year before row 29.  I think the optimal seats, for me at least would be between rows 35 - 40 and in section 1 or across the field in 23.  One advantage of 1 is that although offset, you kind of  face the student section which is fun to watch and definitely fun to listen to when things go well.

The only disappointing seats I've had were in the low rows (<20ish).  It's just so hard to see what's going on if it's not right in front of you.  Ended up watching most of the game on the scoreboards.  I've sat in the top row in the southwest corner, and those were surprisingly great.  You can see the whole field and the plays develop from above.  Only downside is questioning whether the entire band got kidnapped on the way to the stadium, because they might as well have.

I'm also anti-sun, so that's always a consideration for me.  Leaving the game with the life baked out of you by the sun, and even your wallet is wet from all the sweat, is not ideal in my book.

I was sitting in like row 2 near the field, and that game was probably the hottest weather I've ever been in at the Big House.  Had to be pushing 90, so you know the field was even hotter.  By the end of the game I was completely baked.  At least it was an exciting finish as Michigan pulled out a close one 18-17 over Tiki Barber and the Cadaverliers.

50 yard line (except in the middle of the row so I don't have to get up to let people out since I am not leaving my seat for the game).

I took the stadium tour last year and have to say the club seats were amazing. Out doors, but covered from rain and too hot sun. perfect un obstructed view in the front and can see the entire play and field.

I actually felt like I had some vertigo in the luxury boxes and felt pretty disconnected.

Right now though, any seat in the big house will do.  I do hate having to defend my space though when I am not even on the seat and it is obvious the room is being taken up from the large guy down the row and some guy admits later that his seat is the row infront of us.

Another reason I am mad though about the spring game tickets is that I usually try to test a bunch of different seats to see what would be the absolute best seat for me.  Oh well, I'm just happy I get to go

Given that I like to photograph, I would love to be on the field for one game.  Barring that, somewhere above where the stadium starts to rise up quicker (I think about Row 25 or so).  Probably between the 40's on the Home Side (no glare for my camera).

Probably between the 30's somewhere.  These are really nice seats.  Being outside where you can see, feel, and hear the crowd is much better than being inside a box.   Club seats have a short walk down the aisle no matter where you are.  A roof over most of the seats.  A great view to the southwest and north.  Gorgeous lounge inside with nice bathrooms and flat screens.  I was tempted on the tour to pick up a couple of them, but with a daughter at U-M now, decided it was better to put it off (and to prevent being cast out of the house by my wife!).

I'm in the front row of the West side chairbacks.  Being in the front row gives you even more leg room and being on the West means you're on the home side (which I prefer).  I've seen a couple of comments about having the late sun on the East side -- I think this is a disadvantage.  On the West, the sun is never in your eyes.

The East club seats, however, do have access to the club.  Irrelevant for me because I don't ever like to leave my seat during the game, but if that's your thing, it might be worth it.

the Jack Roth Stadium Club is on the East side, of course.  Is there no equivalent in the West Concourse?  I guess not.  Over in the West Concourse, you get Sharp, Rosenberg and Snyder.  (Press Level.)  Lucky you.

As for sun on the east side, if you have any sort of normal ball cap/visor on, the sun is not an issue.  By the time the sun is setting low enough to get directly in your eyes, it is already sinking behind the West Concourse.

I bought my very first season tix last year from someone on ebay.  They're not my seats of course...just for last year.  They were five yard line, about 30 rows up.  If I could have those seats every year, I'd be happy as shit.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

2 years ago and prior, i had section 2 row 38 seats.

Last year I had indoor club.

This year I ordered outdoor club.

I think I'll end up next year in west side chairbacks.

That seems to be a good consensus.  50 yard line, 40 rows up or so. Home side.
