Seantrel sure knew how to pick em

Submitted by Farnn on

First commits to USC, and then switches to Miami.  Plus OSU was pretty high on his list, I wonder why...

Seems like a reasonable inference to me.

<br>Also, the law nerd in me says that Seantrel would be considered a public figure for purposes of a libel claim, which means we're free to discuss and speculate about him all we want as long as we don't state something as fact with reckless disregard for whether its true or not.

For example, if we were to state as fact that Craig James Killed Five Hookers, we would be committing libel. However, if we were simply to suggest the possibility that Craig James Killed Five Hookers, even though it isn't true, we're not in libelous territory.

Did he accuse him of anything? No. Did he word it for the reader to draw his on conclusions based on the facts of impropriatary occuring at both schools? Yes. Did Miami pay recruits....seems so....so what's your problem?

Sure, just like it's possible that he received no benefits at all.  Nevermind that the reason he chose not to go to USC was because of the sanctions they receieved which is a perfectly reasonable reason that wouldn't involve a bigger payday from Miami.

Truthfully, I could use both.  In full disclosure, I spent my undergrad days at Miami.  So, I'll admit that there's a good chance me rushing to this kid's defense is just trying to hold on to a little bit of hope that someone wasn't bought and paid for on my second favorite football team.  I'm not in denial, I swear!

You know who lives in Miami? Bryant McKinnie. Where was he formerly contracted? Minnesota.

Where is Seantrel from? St. Paul, MN.

Whose father showed up in 8th grade once he found out his son was a behemoth? Sean Henderson.

Who weightlifted with Seantrel while Seantrel was in high school? Bryant McKinnie.

Who was partying with Bryant McKinnie at the Pro Bowl last year? Sean and Seantrel Henderson on their official visit to Miami.

Who is a rap producer who works so hard at his music career that he was 370 pounds this offseason and got cut? McKinnie.

Connect the dots.

but Miami (YTM), OSU and USC are national programs that one would expect to be in the running for top recruits.

I do appreciate your point and I think every Miami player will be under scrutiny for inappropriate benefits.

but it's the old "correlation is not causation" thing. I still like to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than assuming guilt. Theoretically, the 'extra benefits' at these schools had ended when Seantrel was looking around at colleges.

Maybe every kid who has considered Miami, OSU and USC is on the take. And maybe every "national" power is dirty. If that's true, then maybe it's time to shut down college football and basketball and let the NFL and NBA make their own minor/development leagues.

I don't know anything about Seantrel either, but there is some reason to wonder. Seantrel was the number one recruit in the country. His recruiting process seemed a little strange at the time. His dad seemed to be looking out for his own interests.

I doubt all that many of the kids Miami was recruiting were involved in anything dirty. But guys like Seantrel are a big target for boosters. Unethical programs will use some tactics to get players of his level that they wouldn't for everyone.

Henderson just happened to go from one program proven to give illegal benefits to another proven to give illegal benefits, and another proven to give illegal benefits was the last program cut, but Henderson is pure as the driven snow because he wasn't named in the report.

Did you get this info from Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny?

The OP makes an interesting point/suggestion, even though it may well be unprovable. The kid, whose recruitment seemed weird on the face of it -- the dad wanted a school near the beach -- ping-ponged between the three shadiest top-10 programs (along with Auburn).

Maybe SH wasn't "enticed" in any direct way. Or maybe he was sharp enough to just say no. But come on: kids know the score about these schools, and players talk to each other. How many recruits, having arrived on these campuses, remained totally oblivious to the goings on? Not many. The recruits who remained clean made a choice to do so; it wasn't as if they had no idea what their teammates were doing.
