Scouting Stitt, Redux

Submitted by mgoBrad on

Whelp, it's Friday morning on a non-game week so good football related work distractions are scarce. In case you didn't catch Bob Stitt's Orediggers on TV last night (like me, relevant thread here), Bill Connelly has a very informative post for you:

Obviously the chances of him ever coaching for us are slim to none, but it's fun to dream...

Isn't it neat to waste time talking about glorified high school coaches that might take the reigns of the University of Michigan?  Sort of like Gerry Faust, probably, huh?

What are the real differences between what Stitt is doing vs. Chad Morris at Clemson? It seems that if you really want a spread guru at Michigan, Morris is the elite coordinator most ready to make the jump.

The end of the story said Kansas should give him a call as he is from there; I agree.  If you are Kansas you have nothing to lose - your team and program sucks.  You will never be the head cheese in the Big 12.  Your best best is to try to be a poor man's Baylor or Texas Tech and have a high scoring offense that maybe will allow you to recruit some talented defensive players down the road who want to play for an offense that is fun and crazy.   They have nothing to lose.  Last, you are paying for Charlie Weiss' contract for another X years so you can hire a successful lower level coach on the cheap with Stitt and give it a whirl for 4 years until your budget gets rid of Weiss weight. (pun intended)

I said this in an earlier thread, but Stitt is a fun OC candidate.  He's not a realistic HC candidate, and if we are going to give him credit for an innovate offense at the DII level we then have to consider LOTS of other coaches like Eric Young at N.M. Highlands and Adam Dorrel at Northwest Mizzou State, which certainly are options.  I think Stitt knows his offenses and has done good work there, but there seems to be a lot of hope he's a Tressel-type jump when his only DI experience was at Harvard.

Actually.....Brian may have finally hit one out of the park. I understand that Their school has rigorous academic standards and that makes me feel really good..... get him a top staff and this could really work. Its a risk but Stitt does sound like a Beilen. All substance

I think experience at the D1/FBS level is a tad over rated when considering Stitt.  If M can't get a Harbaugh this guy is at the top of my list.  He's innovative, has shown the ability to recruit at a school with high academic standards, and not many people at the FBS level know about him.  If people could rally around Hoke with his mediocre record than they should be able to give Stitt a chance and the resources to be successful.  Unfortunately not many big time ADs are willing to take that kind of risk, especially at a football hungry school like Michigan.
