Every Thursday over at Touch the Banner, I'm doing a scouting report on a 2013 target. Now that we can concentrate on the 2013 recruiting class, here's a look at five big-time Michigan targets:
Thanks for putting these together. Out of curiosity, how are you selecting which guys to profile first?
A few factors come into play, including the availability of highlight films. For example, I'd like to profile Chris Fox, but there's not much more than camp film on him. And up until this week, Michigan had only offered 40 some guys, so there weren't a ton of options. Now that more offers have gone out, I'll be able to be a little more selective and concentrate on guys who are more likely to pick Michigan at some point.
Trieu reported a few weeks ago that Shallman has an Ohio State offer. No big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it jumped out at me.
Yeah, he picked that up after I wrote the profile, so that's why it's not in there.
Or do you think he's just a big, fast guy whose position can be figured out later? ...I do see that you have him slotted at FB.
I don't think he's a viable feature back, although I have been assured that he's being recruited as a tailback. I think he could take some short yardage carries like Stephen Hopkins, but I don't want him getting the ball 20-25 times a game.
I have no insight whatsoever, but I have to guess it will be hard to pull Breneman away from Penn State with Bill O'Brien being able show tape of this years tight end friendly Patriots offense.
FWIW, he grew up a huge PSU fan and has visited the campus many many times. Brenenman and Foster are most likely going to be the top priority of the PSU staff.
I agree that PSU is going to be hard to beat. The best thing Michigan has going for them is the presence of Shane Morris...and the lack of a solid QB at PSU.
I would be very happy with that.
