Scouting Report: Osa Masina
This week's scouting report is on Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton linebacker Osa Masina, who was Michigan's first linebacker offer in the class of 2015. His 247 Sports Crystal Ball is point 90% to Utah because of his older brother there, but recruiting gurus are insistent that Michigan still has a strong chance.

EIGHT of his seventeen offers start with the letter "U" or later.
I noticed that, too. He must have planned that. Luckily, the University of Michigan fits his criterion.
Thanks for sharing this.
I watched the video and I saw what you meant with the Jake Ryan analogy. I do like that he seems bound and determined to make something happen out there - that's definitely a nice trait to have with any player as it makes them seem just that much better. He looked pretty good as an RB in those highlights, I thought, but then I am not familiar with the competition level in Utah.
There's some decent talent coming out of Salt Lake City, but generally, it's not very good competition.
There are a few successful programs there that tend to dominate in-state, but struggle mightly when schools from other states bring in teams.
The best programs tend to be: Highland, SL East, Brighton, Bingham, Jordan, Skyline, and Timpview. You might be able to make a case for others, but there is very little outside the SLC area.
In the 2014 and 2015 classes, there have been only 3 total Rivals 250 members from Utah. All three came from one of those schools.
I think Cottonwood sent a QB to Bama in 2013, but they got destroyed that year by a team from Washington that had a Pac-12 QB on the roster.
Yeah, Cooper Bateman.
Scout has him as the #7 OLB - is there a reason you excluded them? Just curious.
As with all the far away guys, getting him on campus is big deal. Though I may have heard Sam Webb talking about him - is he the kid who made it to the BBQ at the Big House last year? Maybe not.
I think Houma is going to be a big part of the plans this year on offense, and Mone just looked fantastic to me in the spring game. Being from Salt Lake, hopefully they're helping recruit him. Big years from those guys would help even a little more.
Scout can be wonky sometimes. I think when I originally typed in the rankings, I was having a hard time bringing it up. Thanks for the reminder.
Yes, Masina is the guy who visited for the BBQ, and I think he's aiming to come again this summer.
