Scouting Report: Jordan Wilkins

Submitted by Magnus on

This week's scouting report is on Cordova (TN) St. Benedict running back Jordan Wilkins, who seems to be a high priority for the coaching staff now that Ty Isaac has committed to USC.  There's not a whole lot to dislike about Wilkins.  He seems to be a very capable back and he's a little more elusive than most of the other Michigan targets - Wyatt Shallman, DeVeon Smith, and Derrick Green.  For that reason and for his receiving ability, I think Wilkins is the most Isaac-like back Michigan is targeting.  If Isaac is the prototype that Michigan wants, Wilkins seems to be the next most logical choice.

Did you think Isaac was far and away the best RB we recruited? This isn't sour milk but I thought his film reminded me a lot of Drake Johnson. Both are fast tall runners, Isaac does have more shiftiness to him and an impressive offer list.

I would like the 3rd RB in this class regardless of who it is. After Fitz, it's a pretty big talent drop off at that position. Justice Hayes may have the most potential out of them all but he is far from a sure thing, as are most redshirt freshmen.

Far and away?  No.  I really like Justin Davis and Keith Ford, who committed to USC and Oklahoma, respectively.  I do think Isaac is superior to our other options, but oh well.  You don't always get your #1 choice.  I don't really think Isaac and Drake Johnson are similar, though.  Isaac is a lot shiftier and has better vision, I think.

Sam Webb just cryptically said "you will soon have some things, not thing, things, to get excited about" in reference to us missing out on Ty Isaac. Buckle up!

Yeah, I am sure it is hard to read the minds of 17 and 18 year old kids who are being pulled in a thousand different directions. It still irks me to Buckle Up based on his tweets, only to be let down. I guess I should check my emotional investment for Michigan recruiting at the door.

You can't blame Sam Webb for being wrong on those 2-3 commits after the Spring Game. These little 17-18 year old rascals change their mind every other day, so you are never sure...

Just good to remember these other situations so people do not get too wound up about him suggesting we get 2 big commits in June.  The situation is a bit different because he is bringing this info out and last time he was just making a guess after being questioned.  I think it is a good sign, but things are always changing.
