Scouting Report: Cameron Hunt

I wrote up a scouting report on Corona (CA) Centennial offensive lineman Cameron Hunt.  I would prefer Hunt over the subject of yesterday's scouting report, Kenny Lacy.  Hunt isn't quite as good of an athlete, but he's more technically sound and nastier.  However, I think Hunt would be limited to guard, whereas Lacy might be able to play tackle, too.

Hunt has a really good offer list, which you always like to see. And it seems we need pure guard prospects a bit more right now - but correct me if I'm wrong on that.  Thanks for the scouting report.

TACKLES: Lewan, Schofield, Braden, Magnuson, Tuley-Tillman, Fox

GUARDS: Bryant, Kalis, Bosch, Bars

CENTERS: Miller, Kugler

A few of those guys could play multiple spots (Fox is an OT/OG, Bars is an OG/C, etc.), but yeah, I think guard is a little bit thinner of a position right now.

Solid list, but not "really good" in my opinion.  UCLA and Oregon State are solid offers after this year but there isn't a powerhouse on that list.  I realize he's a West Coast kid, but his list seems like second/third tier schools.  Doesn't mean he's not a very good player -- just means that, on paper, we are easily his most impressive offer.

He has Washington though, which is becoming a tougher offer to get. Also, sometimes quantity trumps quality. Sure, you want a kid sought after by the top tier programs. But if every single tier two program wants him, that tells a lot. Hunt has an offer from 9 of the 12 Pac 12 schools.

Agreed that his offer list isn't great, but it's sort of the equivalent of a Midwest kid getting offered by Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa, Illinois, etc.  The really heavy hitters like USC aren't in there, but it's one step down.  Kids like to stay close to home, so it's tough for many national schools to go into southern California and pull kids away.  If I lived in southern California growing up, I probably wouldn't want to move to the east coast (wet, cold) or the southeast (hot, humid), either.  So unless you're worthy of an Alabama or Michigan State offer, I think a lot of teams just don't bother recruiting hard in that area.

(There is a joke in the above paragraph. I bet you can't find it.)

Thanks for sharing, Magnus.

I watched both highlight videos and Hunt really looks pretty good as it is, especially on run plays, and if he gets to 6'4" and 300-ish pounds, he would more or less be Omameh's size, I think. He looks aggressive, and I did enjoy in particular the one clip from his junior year video where he was actively seeking people to tackle, having taken care of his man, so I agree about the "nasty streak" - that would serve well on the interior line, I think.
